    Me too.

I've ridden it from Salida to the NW for several hours...and it took that long to go a short distance. It is very rough, rocky, and steep, with narrow clearance and steep hillsides. I was also on a CRF250X, not a 300lb DS.

I've heard the trail to the SE of Salida is wider, but more rocky. I think a portion of it is even open to quads. :puke1

I also have a cabin reserved, but a work colleague and I will be sharing the place. He is on a KTM450 and has his kitchen pass.

I periodically like to ride fast, but am by no means a racer.

AiMhi, do you have a .kmz or .gpx of the route you don't mind sharing? Thanks.

Extended Forecast looking good --> http://www.intellicast.com/Local/Weather.aspx?location=USCO0402

I would also like the gpx if possible - it's always nice to have.

Looking forward to this - Getting the bike set up tonight - I'll be out of town until next Friday. I'll take some pics if I can! I'm kind of excited to not be packing the tent, saw, camping chair, etc... should be a much lighter dirtbike setup which will be nice.

This is what my bike looked like for 4 days. I expect the blue bag to shrink significantly without the stuff I listed above. And no cooler either.

Hi Gang - Sorry I have been offline. I tore down my carb last week and found a diaphragm with pin holes.I replaced it last night and it was running well. Just need to set the valves.

I will upload the 2 gpx files when I get back to Denver from Alamosa, most likely Tue/ Wed and really need to test my bike.

With that said in the unlikely event that the bike still has issues you should plan to still do the ride. The weather looks great in the forecast.

Andy - I will book the room tomorrow.

As mentioned I have the .gpx and will upload when I get home next week. From what I can tell the South section of the RT is wider, so the good thing is we are not sure - this will make for more adventure  When I mapped it out there was several opportunities to bypass if we run out of time.

I am getting excited and can't wait to whip through the dunes next weekend :clap

Hi - On the cabins, they all looked booked up so camping it is (EDIT - They had a cancellation so Stephenson and I are in Cabin# 1 C2).
We will all be carrying some gear but stay light. I will be taking my sleeping bag. We will not be "racing" and looking out for each other as a team.

DR650 is perfect for this ride. Well just deal with the Rainbow trail and make an assessment if we need to bypass sections but from everything I have seen about the south section is that we will be ok.

I just found this thread. I enjoyed much of this route on the June ride. Any word on other cancellations for the cabins at the hot springs?

Frost advisory for the San Luis Valley tonight. The cabins have "heaters" as well as "electric". Sounds comfy.

Had something unexpected come up and I won't be able to make it.

I just cancelled my cabin, so there is one free!

Thanks and I'll look forward to the RR.

OK, so I can't go. I can't figure out my bike. I took the carb off 2 x and cleaned everything, jets all passages, float clave you name it, changed the ignition box (to a spare), have spark (changed plug), changed fuel filter, have fuel but it does not want to run. After the first carb clean it ran ok and then it cut out. It just does not want to start. Maybe the ignition coil is bad - but it has spark, I don't know ..

So I am very bummed out, more so frustrated. If you guys still want to go I can send you the route.

I'm canceling my cabin, they have a 24hr policy. Stephenson let me know if you still want to go and take my cabin.

    Sorry guys.

Sorry for the late reply -

I'm out of town this week, coming back Friday. So far I plan to do the ride - I'll work with aimhi to get the reservation switched over.

    So, who do we have?

I'll upload the .gpx to Dropbox and place the link here. Tried to upload the .gpx but it reformats it to .php - WTH! Anyways that will be tomorrow for the route since I will not be home until late.

there is a suggestion to do entire Rainbow Trail not just the south portion so we don't miss the moto only part of the trail

    ManitouMoto - ?

Doing the whole RT? I have not ridden the whole thing so not sure if we have enough time. How about we gauge our progress. If we still have 1/2 day left when we get to Cotopaxi we can go for it. Where do you want to pick it up? I would think Hayden Pass - find out and let us know BlackJackDavey.

Here is the .gpx link. There is (2) routes. The first route is abut 1/4 of the trip and then the 2nd is the rest. I manually mapped it out to around 415 miles so it is most likely around 430.
