I've been catching up on this thread and ran across this just a little while ago. Holy cow! What a fabulous piece of history. I don't know if anyone else read this, but it's well worth it! Does anyone else who's read it know if the book Stan talks about ever got published?

Not completely caught up with the rest of the ride on here yet, but it's pretty great so far!

Yo Doug, just checking in. Looks like this has been a great ride this year, the Dirtster has more than proven itself. The pic of you and Polly in front of the Wendy's in Moscow is a hoot! You go all the way from Alabama to Moscow to eat at Wendys? :lol3

Hope you're going to make it back for the Vintage Festival at Barbers, if the Dirtster is back by then you really should try to bring it to the track for the weekend. Hell, I'll come up and ride it back down here for you! :deal

Give me call when you get back in state, look forward to seeing you.

Very nice RR! I love that you did it all on "Not a BMW or KTM" Or any other MFG that uses just letters as a name!:lol3

I am planning a trip much like your only long, much longer. I will travel some of the same areas but avoiding the Middle East like the Plague! I have a question for you, as an American did you find anything bad or dangerous due to your nationality? I ask as I am American also and I know we are not liked in many parts of the world! Not trying to cause grief over a simple question, just curious. Also, how was the "bribe and robbery" thing? Who much did you lose to those 2 things? Thanks for the info!

    Great RR!

If you read the ride report you will find that you are incorrect in this assumption. the only country where we are not liked is France.

Thanks for the info. I was not reading 133 pages to get that simple answer. Besides, I only read the pictures...."A picture is worth a thousand words" :lol3 Now if he had a picture of himself being harassed in France, I'd have known!

    Thanks again for the info.

And in France we don't like any foreigners with stupid questions .... !
All the others are welcome ... :clap:freaky... Even americans who want to check if we actually eat snails and frogs ... :lol3
We keep some big ones for them, so as they 're not deceived when leaving. :evil

For the others, open minded, who would like to discover the french way of life, with one of the finest cooking in the world, with Italy and Spain (I'm not even chauvinistic), don't hesitate, we're not going to eat you.

I think I remember having red once in a Doug's report that he actualy loved France and its culture, so maybe that what he doesn't really like is to meet a mass of americans when he travels abroad. Just like me when I'm out of France, I don't really like to find a herd of frenches pulling out of a bus, asking silly questions ... :evil

    Welcome guys:beer

you're wrong, my friend. I'm not talking about the rest of the world - I don't know. but being a russian, I know how much Russians don't like Americans. again, in the remote locations, like Siberia, it could be fine. but in Moscow you better say you're from UK.

Do you regard Americans and American government as one in the same, or do really not like the people?

I didn't want to start WWIII over that question. Just curious what Doug's experience was. I know Americans are not like because of what our Commander and Chief does. Simple questions really. I know that the Middle East is a No-No useless you want to end up like those hikers in the News! I am not nieve and I don't think that the World hates us. I also don't think that that question is out of line or stupid. It's a legitimate question. People see American as easy pay days. But I see that I have hit a nerve with a few people, for whatever reason that may be. I am also not saying that only American get robbed or harassed in different countries. America is as bad as anywhere when it comes to foreigners being robbed or harassed for being from the "Wrong Part Of The World" If someone was to ask me, "Hey, Do (insert your nationality here) get picked on in (insert city name here) for being who they are?" If the answer was "Yes" I knew it, I would try to pull the wool over their eyes!! Tell them how it is!

I think you got it right, there. As far as I know a lot of people around the world don't like "America" as a nation and as a government. Doesn't mean those same people have a problem with individuals they meet, American of not.

America or the US is an entity, mostly known for the actions its government take.

Americans are people, just like everyone else.

You REALLY need to read Doug's ride report from last year. Your opinion of the "dangerous" middle east will (hopefully) be swayed.
