of course the forks are spindly, they are from a KTM.

the bike build can be found here

its rather long, but the dirtster is towards the end. It handles fine, not as comfy as the chopper, but better offroad. I did a crappy video here (I didnt know there was moisture in the lens)

I plan to meet Tom in Yakutsk August 5th. thats the best time of year, as far as the road goes. water should be down, but the bugs will be horrible.

And just remember, 'hideous equipment' is a personal observation. I had almost no breakdowns on the chopper, & 2 BMW 'Adventure' bikes had to be pushed onto the boat at the end of Russia, and trucked to a repair shop in Tokyo.

Will the Dirtster do the Dakar? no. but will it handle this trip? probably. Hard to beat an evo sporty for reliability, and I changed none of that, its basically a stock bike, I just jacked it up a bit.

What a life you have. I am new to the forum but unless your signature is a joke that's a lot of trips in a short period of time. Must be a good job you have.
I look forward to reading the adventure. Good luck!

if I was a nun, I'd smack your fingers with a ruler.

Got the bike outta customs, no big problems, altho the customs officer spent 5 minutes goin thru the stamps in my passport (I guess the shizekopf didnt realize Im already here, this is about the bike)

then he got all excited when he saw my smith n wesson gun case top box, but I told him not to worry, I left all of my guns in Alabama.

now stickin it all back together, & headin to Munich tomorrow

    Hey Max
I'll get to Kiev on my way back, be nice to meet you. I spoke with Valerka a few days ago, he's in Rio, & heading to Europe soon. I hope he can stop by Bulgaria to visit. He visited me in Alabama a few months ago, as you probably know :)

Oh and Bob, chase trucks are already waiting close to the borders. the camera crews should be there anytime also.

You cant ride across russia/mongolia without them, as you know.

    Doug
