You realize that is a picture of an Argentine plane in joint maneuvers with the USS Carl Vinson, right? Argentina is an ally with whom we cooperate.

Until they go crazy again and invade the Malvinas...

The old British governor, Sir Rex Hunt, died recently...

At some point the Brits will concede these islands, but only if diplomacy is given a chance.

If the Argy's jump ugly again, the Brits will bow up, but without the combat power they had available in 1982.

It could put us back in the difficult position we suffered through in the first war.

Another issue for the sub-basement. I doubt that the British living on those islands will ever decide to affiliate with Argentina.

    An entirely unlikely scenario.

Bringing this back to "Shiny things", do the Brits have the naval combat air power available today that they had 30 years ago?

Least you forget the fully equipped RAF Stanley with a complement of Typhoons & air to air refuelling. Argentina has nothing remotely as good as he Typhoon with it's Advanced radar and weapons. No contest.

    I'm guessing a UTVA 212 or 213.

Edit: Also known as Ikarus model 213:

And this is the only picture I can find of the 212:

It is the Ikarus (UTVA) 212, I believe. :thumb

I would like to know what the Ikarus 211, or 231 with the enclosed canopy looked like, but can not locate a picture.

Ayup, we're off into obscure obscure sesquiplane with no discernable or interesting features territory.

Someone correct me here but as I recall the Brits are building two aircraft carriers and have an order in for F-35's. They recently went back and forth as to whether to buy the B version or the C version and equip the carriers with catapults, but it's pretty much a done deal.

    Wiki to the rescue... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Elizabeth_class_aircraft_carrier

My concern of the Brits naval air capability stems from their retirement of their Harriers...
