Your welcome BK. We had an amazing seat at the toll plaza watching them go through. I can't believe they made them all pay the $6. It was nervous times watching Shinya's Indian smoking away while he waited in line.

Bravo Doug, another epic ride chiseled into your life's tablet. Thanks for taking the time to let so many, from so far, feel as if they were riding pillion. Thoroughly enjoyed all the pictures and comments from your vast army of supporters.

    AN OL 45 SCOUT

The windowpanes rattle, smoke fills the door,
The house feels unsteady--you wonder what for,
This must be it..the atomic invasion,
The Russians are coming, you yell "Hit the floor"
This is the end. There is nothing more.
And then the smoke clears, the dust settles down,
You look out to see if they've leveled the town,
And there in the yard, so briskly alive,
    Stood a trusty old Indian,
    Scout 45.

I got this from The Retarded Spark, who got it from AIMCO of Cal.

I have run into that too. I have a EZ Pass for the bike and the truck; they are both charged the same amount. That is just retarded.

Sorry for the hijack; glad Doug came through surgery OK. We were able to watch last year; but work prevented us from this year's event.

It has been a pleasure reading your RR. It is also cool how you help out other riders, constantly offering assistance when you can. You are an all right fella in my book. What more could I expect from a guy named Doug? Dougs are some of the nicest people in the World!

I'm sorta sad & sorta glad that its all over.

I met some great people, had lots of fun, got to work on all kinds of bikes,
but now I can travel without a schedule, & not worry about stopping too much to take pictures or whatever.

But, I have to be home around the 8th to get stuff ready for Barbers, so that gives me about 2 weeks to cover almost 3k miles.

doable, but if I have any major problems, I'll have to buy/rent a truck/van & haul ass on home.

My plan is to head out tomorrow morning, as I really need a day off to do a little maintenence on the bike, and have a short break.
    Im pretty worn out.

So, east from Oakland, (Im at Petefromberkely's house) thru Yosemite (I havent been there) down thru death valley to Vegas, then east from there.

I see on the map there is the 9k foot tioga pass in yosemite, anyone done that? thats a bit high, and has me a little worried.

I think that will be my only really big mountains to go over.

    Im open to suggestions......

    Thanks, Doug

Oh, and they are already planning another cannonball in 2 years, I told em to sign me up.

Next time, I'm gonna build a chopper :lol3

That's the best pass for an old bike, speed limit is 35 mph for most of that.

If you're looking at pavement through DV you'll have to deal with one big pass, ask directions at Panamint Springs for Wildrose Canyon, it will take you around the big pass that you can see from Panamint.

What do you folks think is the best way to get across the valley? Remember Doug wants to stay off freeways entirely. We're already on the east side of Oakland, so some of it is already behind him. I don't think there is a "nice" route, but what about practical, safe one?
