He's rolling early this morningn, stopped @ Stovepipe Wells Village...
early is good in DV in the heat of fall.
I blew through there once in late afternoon in october, and it was 107F in the shade and there isn't any. I was wearing black leather. as long as I went 80mpg and sucked a liter/hour through my camelback, I was OK. I made it to Lost Wages by nightfall (god, I hate that town).
His SpotWalla account shows him heading out of Death Valley East Entrance (as of 11:30am Chicago time)...
Hey Doug... you probably have no shortage of offers, but if you're heading through Denver and need a place to crash, we've got a comfy rack in our guest bedroom and cold beverages in the 'fridge
Looks like decision time on the tracker, at some point you have to go north before you can go south.
Edit;Picked the right direction!!!
You'd think he knows what he's doing or something. : )
Nah, he has a Garmin Zumo.
Shows him in Pahrump. Hmmmm, what is there to do in Pahrump.........
He was several months too late for the last show at the Amargosa Opera House.
not much :-/
anyways, shows him heading towards Lost Wages.
So you must know You have a ride report
I guess you could say " I just had to see the varmit"
I take it Doug is going to the Las Vegas bikefest downtown this weekend
I got a couple questions for you, Doug....What kinda mileage do you get, both MPH and range on a fill up.
..........and what caused the problem with the rear Cyl before Sturgis?
Sure hope you take the Charleston Blvd way into Vegas...
would be some great pictures of that bike in Monument Valley (hint, hint)
Just rolled into Vegas!
I made it to my friends in vegas.
For the past several nites, when i drained the sump oil from the bottom of the motor, there have been pieces of metal stuck to the magnet on the drain plug.
This is not good
So, i think this is a good spot to end the indian part of the trip.
Now, i have to figure out what option to take
Ship the bike and fly home, or
Buy a pickup and drive home, or
Ship the bike, and buy another bike to ride home
Im limited by funds as to how nice a bike or truck i can buy, so ship/fly makes the most sense
But its the least fun.......
I bet you could thumb a ride with ADV people all the way with little delay. Sorry, I am 300 miles west of you.
Who is game?
Looking at the map, it appears I-40 is the most direct route, for him.
Well that sucks. Doug, been keepin an eye on you, I'm in Salida, Co. headed for Fla tomorrow afternoon. Could probably meet you in Santa Fe, Abq, or Amarillo. Pretty sure the bike will fit in the airstream, had a Drz400 in it. Maybe get a u.haul to one of those places. Goin thru Alabama, no charge. Taking you and your bike home, priceless. 904 6fivefive-03sixfive.
Oh, no cell coverage for me till early afternoon Fri.
Dang! Sorry bout the '28. No fun being sensible. Find something interesting on the local craigs list, ride it home, then sell it at the Barber swap meet. We hate for this to end too soon. edit: oops, looks like the answer just arrived above.
