Okay man, I'm not a Cardo rep, no need for the bold yelling! ;)

From what I've gathered, voice commands on the previous version have to match whatever the command is, and pronunciation has to match, etc. On the bold, it has more advanced voice recognition similar to what Apple/Android/Alexa uses so it's more accurate and you don't have to learn the list of "exact commands". (It's a shame that @Cardo-scala rider doesn't post here anymore as SRTie4k says)

It IS a shame that they don't post here any more. I think they got too busy. And there isn't a dedicated ScalaRider forum that's set up and maintained by the company. So here, there are dozens of PackTalk threads to try to monitor; some very, very long with lots of comments. I wish they had their own user's group forum.

I wasn't yelling. On this forum, one cannot tell what size font is being used (compared to the standard). When I used "Quote", it put my reply within the quoted section. So I separated it, trying to make it obvious. Sorry if it looked like yelling.

I may be mistaken, but it seems like the only difference is that "Hey Cardo" is recognized now with no button tapping necessary. I've been tapping a button first to get its attention. Seems that would be a function of firmware, but maybe not.

I wonder how they keep "Hey Cardo" from being transmitted to the intercom pack.

From what I read, they have their own "Cardo Community" thing. Am guessing they find it easier to use one place for support rather than try to monitor every possible bike related forum out there, I dunno.

As to the natural talk, I think it's just more advanced voice recognition - it currently stands that you tap the button and say "Hey cardo, increase volume" (or whatever). Now you don't do the button tap, and say "Hey Cardo, turn the music up!" or "Hey cardo, volume up" or "Hey cardo, louder!" the same way you can with a smartphone. Am guessing that requires more processing power/better internals over the previous version.

FC-Moto in Germany had them in stock. Received mine last week. Have them mounted up on our helmets and so far so good. Had Sena 10u before and they just never worked well together. So far so good love the ability to have my music playing and also have a conversation.

I am a Sena user who is switching to the Bold, so I don't have any experience with the regular PackTalk. BUT, my understanding from reading and asking questions on the Cardo FB page (which they did respond to) is that:

    - The non-Bold, with firmware 4.0, will have all the same features as the Bold - except for Natural Voice.

    - Natural Voice will allow you to do EVERYTHING with your Cardo without touching any buttons. In contrast, with the non-Bold, I think there are some scenarios where you would HAVE to press one or more buttons to accomplish what you want. Made up example, because I don't really know either unit: You're in a mesh intercom chat. You want to drop out and make a phone call. With the Bold, you can use voice commands to do it all. With the non-Bold, you have to press at least one button to drop out of the intercom chat and then proceed to make a phone call.

I liken this to the evolution of Android phones. Nowadays, my phone can be sitting on the desk in front of me with the screen turned off and I can say "ok, google" and then give it a command and it works. A generation or two (of Android phones) ago, I would have had to first press a button or tap an icon to get "google" to start listening to me before I could then give it a voice command.

When I heard about all this, I asked the very same question as you - does the whole pack hear it every time anyone says "hey cardo" to initiate a voice command? No credible answer yet, that I've seen.

Excellent information! Thank you very much StuartV.
Maybe they have a special chip in the Bold hardware that quickly recognizes "Hey Cardo" before keying the mic. With gloves, it's always a matter of FINDING the button first. I hope the Hey Cardo works well because I'm becoming more convinced to upgrade.

Have you watched this video and the other ones the same guy did?

Those videos had a LOT to do with me deciding to switch from Sena to Cardo. The Bold is just the latest and greatest and I can't stand to buy last year's model and then find out later that I missed out on a good feature that I want.

My Sena SMH-10 units still work fine. 6 or 7 years old and still work perfectly. Batteries still last all day. But, the voice quality when I make a phone call is just not great. I believe I will have much better results with the Cardo. The whole mesh network thing doesn't really (currently) matter much to me. I rarely ride with more than 1 other person and the Sena BT intercom setup has always worked just fine for me, for that.

I was a Sena user for 5 years, ending with 2 years of Sena 20S frustration. There are up to six of us that take annual 2-week motorcycle camping trips of 3,500 to 5,000 miles each trip. Our bad experiences with the 20S were many. They never admitted to the "popcorn" or "crackling" noises that came into everyone's ears with a 3-or-more rider group, even though their website was teaming with complaints. Went to PackTalk and it was like a huge sigh of relief. We have almost perfect, noise-free communication at all speeds on our last several trips. We all use earbuds for our highway travel, so the volume is set very low. The communications are like talking on a telephone party line. We all can hear and be heard with the full-duplex FM modulation audio. Music sounds fine to me. The ability to use the iPhone's Siri to check and send text messages was a pleasant surprise. Answering the phone is extremely easy.

Now with their new firmware and new instruction manual, I've been quite happy. And for that reason, I'll upgrade to their latest "Bold" product. I spend much more money on gas, tires, oil, etc than on my communications devices. On our trips, the Packtalk just adds to the pleasure of the trip. In late August, we're riding from Dallas to Oregon, Washington, and then a week camping in Glacier National Park (plus all points in between).

Apparently, they were marked as In Stock for the brief window of time during which they had them and were working to fill pre-orders.

I just got email from them that my PackTalk Bold Duo has shipped and should arrive Saturday.

    You're a dick, Stuart. You know that? You're a dick. :lol3

(Post up when you get 'em - really curious to know if they're worth the upgrade over the Packtalk)

I have a feeling you entered your email in their "notify me when they are in stock" list. I did not. That is probably why you got that earlier email and I did not.

I sure hope they don't recant the tracking number they sent me!

Just because I'm a dick and all, I figured I'd mention that the tracking info for mine has been updated. Now, it says my Bold set should arrive tomorrow (Friday), instead of Saturday.

    Goddamn Manassholes!!! ;)

Mine's preordered. Cardo say on their Facebook page that another shipment is on the way to distributors so fingers crossed Revzilla's estimate of a month from now is conservative.

    Pitter patter, Cardo, tick tock!

Sounds like somebody needs to mosey on over to Lagunitas, have a cool one in the beer garden, and chill out...
