Dual Sports invade the new off-road resort.

This place is about an hour away from me and I just rode there for the 1st time today 1-7-08. It's located about 1/2 way between Charlotte and Columbia just a couple of miles from I-77 exit 46.

It's a new place, (can't even see it on google earth yet) but it looks to be shaping up into a resort type of place....not just an ordinary OHV.

It kind of reminds me of a ski resort, in that they are finishing up this big lodge with a huge dining room. They also look to be putting in a campground with full hook-ups and a bath house.

Below is a zip-line tower...there are several of them....this one flies down toward the big moto-x track.

This one was just out in the woods...

The parking area is huge.....and part of it is equipped with campgroud style fire pits for grilling out tail-gate style.[IMG]

This place claims to have 2,600 acres with 100 miles of trails...here's a partial trail map.

I tried to overlay it on a topo.....

The yellow trails are single track!! The ones we tested were very tight in places too.
...the rest of the trails are rutted up by ATVs...some worse than others. (we were told that grooming would be done this winter)

Sandy Loam seems to be the dominant terrain, with a few patches of clay here and there. Not too many rocks....but they may be hiding on a trail we missed.

Before this became an off-road park it was used for logging and then by hunt clubs. Thus there is a vast network of pre-exsisting service roads criss-crossing the property, which are a reddish orange color in the above map.

    more pics to follow......

Some mud and ruts on the power line.

    trail 3....two way traffic...

    saluda...on his DR350

This is what they call the "Enduro" track. It's an obstacle course of sorts......

The old DR650 high centered on the logs. Note the tire obstacle in background.

More ruts......and second growth pine....a common sight.

    [IMG]Single track!!

They have spent some money on signs.....everything is very well marked.

This is a one-way trail going down to a small creek bed, then back up what they call "Grizzly Hill"

    Grzzly Hill

This is one place that we did see a good bit of loose rock....but there is a by-pass trail....yep we weaseled out.

Looking back down from the top.

After heading back to the parking lot for a snack break, we did a few laps around the "Vintage" MX track.

It's a mellow track with 3 table tops and no whoops or big jumps...they might be on the "Big MX track"

Here's a "green" trail..#5.. it follows the Big Wateree Creek.

Where it intersects the power line and it's creek crossing

    ...rolling hills...

Further down is this bridge...for when the water is high.

    Which is NOT today..

Across that bridge is......more single track!!

Well marked with race type arrows...so you don't miss it in the downed leaves...

We made it!! a service road in sight!

look at a service road....looks like any other dirt road....

But then what are you gonna do when this sign shows up? Do you feel lucky, punk? Well, do ya?

or will you opt for the "easy way out"?

    He's on a trail....really, he is.

Riding one handed photography....it still needs some work.

This was a fun trail....ruts not so deep.

Did I say that there weren't many rocks..[IMG]

This is a common sight on the "shared" trails.

This NOT so common a sight....but a nasty one.....

Lots of extra weight for traction.[IMG] (how much "stuff" will fit on your tank?)

These dubious looking signs once again at the base of "Mamoth Hill"

    The start up the switchbacks....

Mud Bog...as listed on the map.(there's another one near the parking lot)

That's about all I have for pics......I'd say we just got a sample of Carolina Adventure World......lots of trails out there...
It would be a good place to take the family camping for sure!

Looks a lot muddier than when I went in September. I enjoyed it but it was a lot of 1st & some 2nd gear riding in deep ruts left by the 4 wheelers. Glad I went though, Hatfield-McCoy is next for me.

I predict it will be full of 12-pack hauling ATV's, they'll destroy the place, and it will be bankrupt in 2-3 years. I hope I'm wrong though.

    Hey all,:wave

To answer a few of your questions/ comments...

It is a bit pricy,(compared to NF OHVs) esp for just 1 day at $25, but 2 consecutive days are $35. The facillities they are building look nice....I think it would be a good place to take the family camping .......

The website link is working fine for me...:scratch

The terrain IS soft and ATVs ARE rutting it up. But there are 3 separate single track trails of decent length. (very tight in places)

We were told that because of the drought this summer they didn't groom any trails as they just thought it would create a real bad dust problem. Now that they have gotten a bit of rain grooming has resumed.

Alcohol is NOT allowed on the trails........but that's true most places ....it sounded like they may be planning to serve it at the lodge after trails close for the day..

I was riding a 650 and didn't have any trouble.......but it's geared for smaller bikes and ATVs as the trails ARE tight and slow going in most places.

With most all the $5 National Forest OHVs closed for the season....... it makes a good place to head south for a weekend in the woods. They even rent ATVs (and golf carts, service roads only)....if that's your thing.....

I hope to make it back down there and finish exploring their trail system sometime in the not too distant future.

2nd attempt at overlaying the trail map onto a topo...still not perfect but the terrain seems to match up pretty close. Black and white makes the colored trails easier to see too.

    Yellow is singletrack.
