It won't eject, but it will play.

How do you get it out? I'd gladly sacrifice it, (even though it IS Van Halen Greatest Hits :D)

Does it go DOWN when it goes in? Can I reach in with a knife and pop it UP?

Most CD players have a little hole next to the slot where you insert the CD. Push the end of a paperclip into the hole and it should force the CD to eject.

You've got the best CD ever made stuck in there!?
Shucks, it could be worse, could have happened while the wife had it playing Bette Midler or some such crap....

THAT, I've never heard. Will try when I get the time.

If you're playing the cd, and hit eject, it'll switch to F.M. radio, but it just acts like it's stuck and doesn't come out.

I just checked the 3 car CD playes I have, and none of them have a hole for a paperclip.

When a CD is stuck in a car player, quite often the hang-up is the hole in the CD sticking on the spindle. The tool I have had the best luck with is take an old windshield wiper blade and remove one of the thin metal strips that are on the blade.

Here, you can see the part I am talking about here. It is the thin strip above the right thumbnail:

Now, take this strip and cover it with a long strip of electrical tape, run it lengthwise and over the end and back down the other side. Now trim the excess tape with some scissors, leave about 1/16-1/8" overhang on both sides.

Now fish this strip into the CD slot and try to get it under the CD and when you can get it into position next to the center spindle start twisting the strip to pop the CD up and off. Sometimes you need to grab them with something but if you are careful most of the times they come out undamaged.

Thanks GreaseMonkey for the detailed response.

I feel like it's simply "stuck" and like I said, don't mind ruining it to get it out without tearing up the stereo.

If I can't find an old wiper, my first instinct is ALWAYS a knife.....

Hey I've used a butterknife before too, however sometimes the CD sets a tiny bit down but having said that I've never hurt a player by trying.

I had an '04 Dakota and the CD would get stuck once in awhile and not eject. Every time I would get in the truck I would hit the eject button and after a few days it would come out. Then it would work flawlessly for weeks and then it'll get stuck again. Sometimes it would take a couple weeks to finally get the CD dislodged and come out. I finally learned my lesson and stopped listening to CD's.

    Good luck!

slap the hell out of the dash when you hit eject. GM's idea should also work.

Is this the single CD player or is it the player with the 6-disc changer?

The changers from around that vintage were fairly well known to screw up and lock your CDs away.

Back when it happened to me my car was under warranty and the dealer swapped the radio out. They assured me that Chrysler would send me all my CDs back but it's been 6 years now and I have received nothing.

I'm not holding my breath any longer.

    It's a single.

I won't have time to mess with it again till the weekend, but if unhooking the battery doesn't work, It's going UNDER THE KNIFE this weekend.

    It worked fine until........

    It didn't.
