40 yard rockets, 30 yard free kicks up and over a wall...best in the world.

12 yards out from the spot with just the keeper to beat, he ranks right up there with John Terry :rofl

Back when, I used to love watching Peter Lorimer wind up for a shot. Cannon for a leg. (Scots, yeah, I know.)

The Telegraph made a list of top 5 thunderbolt goals.

    No Lorimer. :cry

But the winner is stunning. Roberto Carlos, basically from the corner. :huh

    Chelsea.... 2 !

And on to the Cup final. Drogba's a man transformed since Guus has come aboard.

It's a great goal but it does have a little bit of luck. I'm surprised they didn't pick Charlton's goal against Mexico rather than the one against Portugal.

I find it fascinating how Guus Hiddink has rescued Florent Malouda's career.

I assume Hiddink recognized that Chelsea has a lack of pace. And so he often plays Malouda wide to one side and Kalou wide on the other. Both are quick and add much needed pace.

And yet Mourinho, Grant and Scolari seemed to use Malouda the same way, without getting anything useful out of him.

So I wonder what Hiddink's doing differently? :scratch

It looks like the FA Cup is on Setanta. So I guess I'm going to have to figure out this pirate bay stuff once and for all. :bluduh

No-one's watching the IRL these days.

But Sunday's race in Long Beach was pretty entertaining, especially for a road course. Some actual passing for position. And canny pit strategy by the Andretti Green team put their cars in a good position after bad qualifying.

And Ashley Judd was quite emotional about "happy days are here again" when her hubby Dario Franchitti won, a welcome change from his awful stint in NASCAR.

It was nice to see Helio Castroneves back after being cleared of tax evasion. And I was glad to see Danica Patrick place fourth, and only once lose a spot on a restart, her weakness.

Also, the coverage on Versus is excellent, infinitely better than the low-budget treatment ESPN/ABC gave the IRL last year.

I watched a bit of that yesterday. Well Sid, all I can say is, the Speed Team have nothing to fear. The commentators were the normal, hyped up on Red Bull, OTT American commentators you find everywhere on TV. I couldn't stand it so I went and sanded a bench in preparatoin for paint instead :D

You prefer the cool, calm and collected Murray Walker, eh? :brow

Never was a fan of national treasure Murray. I know shock, horror...hang draw and quarter me.

I really like the Speed team - I like the Brits (obviously :D) for their idiosyncrasies and for their insight but I also rate Varsha very highly - he knows when to STFU and let the others do their stuff (Hobbs on the other hand, has yet to learn that skill) and he has a very dry wit and he slips the occasional comment that leaves me chuckling. I think they work very well together. I find 99.9% of all American sports commentators (do NOT get me started on that wanker Shaheen) absolutely crap - I simply cannot watch most sport on TV, there incessant need to explain and chatter and hype everything and be all corporate (they're not just tires, they're Firestone Tires - fuck me that annoys me) drives me up the wall...

I agree wrt to the Speed team. Like you, I wish Hobbs would learn not to talk over everyone else. He's like a child - if he has a thought he gives it voice immediately, completely ignoring the fact that someone else is already talking.

It's a good thing we rarely see them, though. Have you seen Matchett on camera? He looks like a serial killer, always looking away, eyes cast down, seemingly in his own strange world. :lol3

Seems like every time a team upgrades their logo, they screw it up. The Pats, the Broncos, it looks terrible.

But for once, the team and their NFL marketing cohorts got it right.

The new Detroit Lions logo is better than its predecessor.
