Didnt hear about it. What happened?
A couple spectators were killed during a hill climb event!
Wow. Thats terrible. Thoughts and prayers to those folks. My guess is spectator rules are about to change at Stony. Rzr's can easily get out of control in hill climbing events.
i used to love it there, lots of rocks and a few hill climbs. mostly double track that flows pretty good. the sxs crews are getting roads (it ain't a trail if a car can fit down them) built out there. recently the attitude towards bikes had gone sour, but that can change with some real management.
Moto Gymkhana June 10, 2017 Falkville, AL
I shall be there.
Just jumping in to follow. I'm in St. Clair County here in central AL. Just thought I'd chime in for possible group rides or fun. Got a couple of us here. Here's my 1981 DR500 I built last year, got a build thread over in Thumpers. Good to see this thread!
I believe Big #1 is having a bike night this week if anyone wants to ride over and try to win the slow roll!!
Nice bike, neighbor.
Perry Mountain 24 Hour Challenge is this weekend!
Swing by Team Heavy Hitters (the Aprilia tent in the pits) if you are in the area!
Triumph Tiger 800 rider in Montgomery. Don't have dirt appropriate tires on the bike now so I'm a tarmac-only guy for now. Join the Bama Rides forum as well for more folks to meet with. There an organized camping ride up in Bankhead Park very soon with great dual sport guys.

I have ridden the Skyway Challenge from Sylaward in Sylacauga to the top of Cheaha and the other way several times on a mountain bike. Pretty grueling with pedals but some fun rutted out runs that make it all worth it. And beer...lots of beer around the fire.
I used to race motocross but was never really fast just had a ball doing it. I never had that racer killer instinct. I just got my first bike after a while a 16' KTM 500 EXC and I live in Auburn. I'm looking forward to some rides around the area. I avoid the slab as much as possible. The woods, dirt, or track are much more my preference. Hope to meet some of you guys on the trail.
Absolutely, congrats on your new KTm, that's a sweet machine! I've been using Skyway as a way to practice my positioning on the pegs and for hill climbs. I'm not a racer as of yet, but will be attending hare scrambles whenever I finish building my YZ250. Right now I'm just rocking the DR and having a ball doing it. I may be riding up to Talladega this Sunday morning for a ride if the rain holds (I know I'm a heathen).
Howdy folks! Think I know quite a few of you from Bamarides and the dirt group. Just picked up a KTM 640 and am looking to do more adventure rides.
Every year I take motorcycle day trip with my dad for Father's Day. After reading the forum I'm thinking we should do the Skyway from Sylacauga to Cheaha this year. Dad has an XT250 so we'd probably need to trailer there. Anyone have a place they recommend leaving it for the day? Wal-mart off 280?
If you are coming from sylacauga then the trail head at 600-1 is located next to a road that has a generous parking area, and a hill if you are taking it off a truck bed. Should be pretty easy. There's a steak house in sylacauga that makes for the perfect after ride spot that serves good food.
I'd join y'all but my wife has birthday plans for me that day. Going to see friends up north:-/ I'd rather be riding a bike, even if it's with someone else's dad haha.
Much obliged, DayTripper! Is Harvey's on Noble the steakhouse you're referring to? It looks pretty tasty based on google's pictures. Hopefully they won't mind some dusty adventure bikers rolling in the place.
it's in this building. Don't know the name of it.
It's located near marble City tap room.
I'd check hours before committing to any place in Sylacauga on a Sunday.
I was told by a customer the other day that around Troy, Alabama there a quite a few miles of dirt roads. Now offroading is fun, but one cannot pass up a chance to slide around dirt roads either. I'm gonna go check it out today. Will head east just north of Troy to investigate the situation. Everything towards North Alabama is wet, so I'm gonna head south for a bit. Hope ya'll have a good holiday weekend. Watch out for drunk cagers!
