Brad...are you sure it wasn't the battery? It's ALWAYS the battery :lol3

You can get an ICU from Rocky Point Cycle, $25 plus shipping. I'm going to use this thread to make up a list of spares for my bike.

It sounds like your trip is going well so far, it is supposed to be an adventure after all. I hope the rest of your trip is mechanically uneventfully.
    Good luck!!

Wait, wait, wait. How come no one is stating the obvious.?! Mr. "stash everything on the bike in weird places" didn't have a spare ICU?! Are you serious?!!! And no hall sensor?! Its like the size of a baby coke and weighs under a pound!!! I thought you had a saddlebag full of spares!!! We may have to send out a care package yet!! Sorry, just had to call you on it. Might go to Pull Apart today and play in the smashed up jettas, even though i have a spare!!!

    Ride on, Brother! :thumb

I'm mostly home-bound this summer, so I'll be keeping up with your mexican adventure. If you need anything shipped or an easily scavenged part off my bike to get you out of a jam, shout!

i would have had a spare ignition system but i wanted to wait to see what rick from motorrad electric came out with. i didn´t know if he´d use the same icu or not. my spares bin is actually pretty small. cables, that´s about it.

i can get back on the road right now but i want to thank juan for driving me around yesterday and apparently he doesn´t get up too early. ah well, gives me time to play around on the interwebs.

it´ll be another short day of riding. hopefully i´ll find a spot on the beach somewhere tonight and sling a hammock up. man i love my new hammock. how have i lived without that thing?

oh and i gotta get one of these spanish keyboards. watch this

    áéíóú ¿¡ñ

do you have any idea how much trouble it is to type that stuff out for my spanish essays? there´s actual buttons for it right on this keyboard!

    Hi Brad,

This is my first real ride report I have caught in the process, you posted your last post mere minutes ago. Fantastic!

The other folks on this thread all seem to know you personally, but I will be following your report very closely. I was particularly impressed with the ignition fix.

I am looking forward to your future posts.

    Ride on.

    Cheers! :beer

no trigger if you use the points. (i know... i'm evil)

At least those gold valves we installed are working flawlessly right?

Terrified chickens, field conversion repairs, beer and A/C. Sounds like you're off to a good start.

    you got my number still?

If you get desperate, I have no serious rides up and coming and it's getting hot outside so I lurk in the A/C.

I can pull my points beancan and 3ohm coil and quick instructions for a swap in the field. It'll at least erase any probs of ignition trigger or hall sensor worries and it takes 5 mins to drop on new points and condensor on the side of the road.

The offer is there. And this will motivate me to push harder on completion of my dual hall sensor mod jig. Hey, if that gets done, I can send you Stagehand's beancan. Guaranteed to add 3 HP! (but it only works well if it's dirty)

Perhaps you were being sarcastic, but in case not, don't feel like you got taken on your first day in Mexico. The guy who helped you and then hit you up for a fee probably earned his bread that day. As many who've traveled through Central & South Am. know, wealth is relative and right now you are wealthier than perhaps 99% of the folks that you're likely to meet on your trip.
When dealing with guides, taxis, or anyone offering assistance, consider what the help is worth to you and negotiate or simply offer a price beforehand. This way, you don't feel like you are being extorted or that you are cheating someone.
Have a great adventure and thanks for sharing it with us.

Brad..just a thought. Heat is one of the enemies of the ICU and you are in quite a hot climate right now. I noticed from your preparation thread that you put the HID igniter right next to the ICU. Is it possible that it could be adding to the heat already there???

I've never done it, but I like the idea for a trip like this one.
