I'm a bit east from you in Fairview Heights but you need to quit riding the flat grid and head south for a couple of hours to the Shawnee area, tons of riding for a D/S bike. 2-1/2 hours would have you in the Potosi, MO/Mark Twain area and Bixby!!!

My bad, I forgot I was in the Central Illinois page, home of the flat grid, I know, grew up there. (it's still just a couple of hours away...).

    I have never been lost.

Isn't that about 500 + miles a day on average? The old guy's gonna be cranky! :-)

Going to be cranky? I only know him to be cranky. Any yes I think the average is close to 600 a day.

I think it will be challenging but a blast.

I had a 98, great bike. Best mod of all was an accelerator pump carb. That and a FMF slip on was it for my performance mods. I ran Pirelli DOT knobbies on it. Try them next time, they are really capable off road. Rode it to work down the interstate quite a bit, the buzz was annoying, but small price to pay for such a capable bike. My Father in law lives down there, rode some of those trails North of Lake Centralia. Sold the XR a couple years ago and bought a Husky 630.

Not yet , but the more I search I am inclined to agree the XR's charging system could handle it.

So you are a bit WEST of me in Fairview Heights? :D

Agreed , went to school at SIUC. Had a lot of fun in Shawnee and the surrounding area.

RRP13, you are correct, I'm west of you. We've even got routes where you could run gravel levees all day, Chester area.

Welp, it's official. The insurance is bought and I'm going to buy my Nighthawk 750 this weekend (first bike). :rilla

If the sun pokes out on Saturday the buddy I'm buying it from is going to pick me up and show me how to lube the chain, change the oil, and send me on my merry way in exchange for my cash. Otherwise we'll do it on Sunday. I'll have to get out onto the two-lanes and see who's in the fields and who's still wrenching on the tractor. :rofl

What year is your Nighthawk? Back in the 80's a buddy of mine had that exact bike and I got to ride it, very cool.

    02. As someone else on here said, it's the epitome of TGO - tires, gas, and oil. Very simple bike, not even a windscreen, but I rode it for 1k miles last year so I know it will haul my fat butt around reliably and start every time (with gratuitous use of choke, of course).

No good deed goes unpunished. KWC roosts me when I wave him by to take a pic. I thought I was riding with Big Bore for a second. Have to look for a headlight guard for the Husky.
