This thread is the spawn of another thread where someone asked about where to ride in Central Kentucky. I've been looking around my area of Lincoln County and haven't found any dirt/gravel roads yet. However, it is apparent that there are lots of great places to ride in Central and Eastern KY that many lurkers have first hand knowledge about.

I decided, after an all too long break for the strangest winter I can remember, that we needed a single place where we can post ride plans for the Central Kentucky area. I don't have anything specific in mind, but just to create a place where riders from Central Kentucky can post plans, with the idea of letting others know when you are planning, or loosely planning to ride. Maybe someone would like to join you.

I don't have anything planned myself, yet. But very soon, I'll be out on my Vstrom, named the Turtle (because she likes to wallow in water & mud) looking to find some good gravel and dirt, single or double track routes. Maybe I'll even see you out there...Whadyasay?

O.K., I'm in. I can ride just about anytime with a couple day's notice and prefer through the week over weekends. I'm tied up the rest of this week but next week is looking pretty good.

JB: I'm work fulltime during the week so it'd have to be a holiday or vacation for me to be able to ride mid-week. The weather/rain is looking to get pretty wet for the next seven days, with the exception of this Saturday. It seems the further you go into the future, the less accurate the forecast becomes so it's pretty tough to see any further than about three or four days ahead, weather wise. That's just my opinion of course, so you can take that for what it's worth.

After this weekend, my weekends are going to be tied up for the rest of this month, so this might be my best shot for March. Saturday morning will dawn clear and cold with a starting temp hovering right around freezeing. I'd prolly opt for waiting for a hour or two of sunshine to break up any icey patches. That'd mean heading out of Crab Orchard about 9:00 am, at the earliest. Don't have a destination yet, but I have a map that shows some interesting places down around Corbin. I haven't looked at that route in any detail and I'd be open to anything else, but if no one else suggests anything else, that's gonna be my plan: head out between 9 and 10 and travel Southeast for about two or three hours, aiming for something new. But, heh, that's why we call it an adventure, right?

Temps were very moderate and the wind wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be.

I'll be leaving Frisch's in Somerset Saturday morning at 9:30 am (after breakfast) if you're interested. I'll be on a red R100GS. Plans are to ride out 192 to the Mt. Victory area then over to Laurel Lake and to Cumberland Falls. We'll do some easy gravel, or not if you prefer.

Nice Thinstrom LSR! Removing those fairing bits certainly improves the looks of the bike.

Hey, if any of you are looking for a cheap new toy a friend of mine who lives down near Leitchfield has a Yamaha XV 920 RJ for sale. He has it pretty well sorted and put a good number of miles on it before quitting riding due to a terrible accident by his wife who was riding her Ninjette behind him. If you have any interest PM me and I can put you in touch with him. He is a member here (Elbow) but I don't think he visits the site anymore.

Hey, another central Ky thread! Being a husband and father to young children means I have no ride time, but gotta lurk anyway!

I'd be up for a meet and greet (well, other than Frishes this Sat. as I'm in training that day). Who wants to take charge?

We could meet at the fairgrounds hot dog stand to help out our brother in L-burg with limited ride time! :lol3

Well Goofy1, sounds like you elected to coordinate that ride event. All we need now is a date and lurkers can jump in! I can't ride again this month and I am limited to weekends. I'm willing to join your Lawrenceburg Meet & Greet ride. The only experience that I have in that area is trying to find Taylorsville Lake, so I'll have to be a follower, but you can count me in, beginning on March 31st. :freaky

That would be cool. I forgot to mention that my bike (KLR 650) is in pieces at the moment (doing a pretty extensive rebuild, so I'd have to be scootin' on my Zuma 125. :lol2) It would be cool to meet some fellow inmates though!

I have kin near Frazer/Monticello and have done some riding in the area. Lots of great roads and even some awesome trail riding, too. A cousin and I spent a day riding in the triangle between KY 167/KY200 south of Monticello and if it hadn't been for rain we could have ridden all the way into Tennessee off-road.

On the big dually bikes I'd recommend venturing south of KY 90 into the hills. Some of these dirt roads can get pretty muddy, though so use some common sense and/or the correct tires--or wait until dry weather.

Regardless I'll be down in the near future to do some exploring. You guys are lucky to live so close to such great riding!!!

Went out today with some maps, my GPS and the ever-trusty XR650L Piggy Sue. My intent was to scout out some possible gravel roads south of the Kentucky River and west of KY 169. Heading west towards Silver Creek on Maple Grove Rd. I encountered a 20 yd swath of road slime (clay, algae, manure and lotsa' water) and, you guessed it, was on my ass and sliding next to the bike before I could even utter a monosyllabic curse.

It took me awhile to start the bike since I failed to notice that I had inadvertantly hit the kill switch on the way to the pavement, but the good news is a) an XR650L is a whole lot easier to pick up by yourself on a slimy road than a DL1000 VStrom and b) I get to order those Renthal handlebars that I've been wanting. And hey, what's an XRL without a few scuff marks.

Once I'm walking a little straighter I'll be scouting the roads in the Daniel Boone between McKee and London - any of you guys interested in a week or two?

First off, glad you seem to be ok.

Second, I'm interested, but unfortunately, unable. Parental responsibilities and all that.

Wow glad you're OK! Work is crazy right now and for the next month or I'd be all over the Dan'l Boone. Great area to explore.

LL: Glad you bounced pretty good and that you both survived. Post up here and see if anybody is available to ride with you next time, if you want the company. I know that sometimes, when you go wandering, you just want to wander solo. That's cool too. All who wander are not lost...we're just adventurin'

Lexington Motorsports is hosting Hot Winter Nights this next Saturday, March 31st. There will be live music starting around 1:00 pm as well as a prize vault valued @ $3,000. Food, music, test rides (weather permitting) and bikes! That sounds pretty cool to me. I just might have to ride up thar! Still a little distant on my calendar for a firm commitment, but it sounds good.

I've "liked" them on Facebook and then added a comment "RSVP for Hot Winter Nights" for an extra chance to win the prize vault money. Anybody else interested in a short road trip to Lexington NEXT Saturday, March 31st?
