Old Powerhouse at the Old Navy Yard
Oh so close to the previous tags....
Nice day for a ride, so I grabbed the tag:
Tag is located near the intersection of North Hobson Ave. and Noisette Blvd on the old Navy base. Note that this little final piece of street where it crosses the railroad tracks doesn't show up on google maps, but it does show up on Bing.
New tag up in a sec...
In the same general location as the two previous tags, there's a Father's Day related story for this tag.
My dad worked construction projects as a motor grader operator all over the southeast during WWII, and spent quite a bit of time at this location. There used to be a traffic circle around this flagpole until the streets were rearranged about 1980. My dad was on a crew that was in the process of paving these streets, so he was grading in this general area sometime around 1942. The guard house was very close by, and in addition to keeping Nazi spies out, the guards were very particular at making sure EVERYBODY drove around the traffic circle in the correct direction. Well Dad had been grading all around this flag pole for an hour or two, going back and forth, getting each side of the street, etc.. When he was finally finished, he happened to be headed in the wrong direction on the traffic circle, so he just drove off to the north to the next site. ~1/4 mile down the street, he hears a siren and looks back to see two Navy guards pursuing him. Damned if they didn't make him turn the grader around, go back to the traffic circle, and drive around in the correct direction before they'd let him go.
You've got to love the military mindset sometimes....
Haha, good story Hugh!
I knew I had seen this before and drug my youngest all around the navy yard with me looking for it. We had given up and started heading towards the Hunley when it slapped me in the face.
Pretty sure a lot of you are here frequently. I was doing some window shopping myself.
Good grab. For those of you who're wondering, it's the flagpole at the old Reynold's Avenue gate at the former Charleston Navy Base/shipyard.
Dang. I was wondering why the I hadn't seen any email updates from the "Coastal" tag game. I did some investigating and found that it's been stuck in the Florence area for a few months.
Sub'd. I'll try to get back in the game.

I love outside murals. You shouldn't have to dig in too far to find it, but parking may be hard.
Draechon, have you had issues with Champion Honda? I've had several, and no longer spend my money there.
LT, I have had a number of bad experiences with that shop that I won't delve into here. Basically, I always felt unwelcome when going in, unlike any other bike shop. I'm definitely not a Harley guy, but always felt they have the welcoming atmosphere down.
Anyone need a further clue on the tag?
How do you feel about going to cycle gear:eek1
I'd think about mounting the machine gun on the Ural next time I stop to get oil.....
Really, really sad.
Im new to the forum. I am in West Ashley and would love to start playing. Any advice would be welcome.
Clue updated, just like the DR, improved:
Welcome to the forum.
Don't give it entirely away....headed there tomorrow
Re "NOW" - dang, Draechon, you've been busy! Izzat a two-toned front fender?
