They move around a lot don't they!? Didn't they use to be downtown on 10th street? And then down on Hwy 250 on the east side of town? I didn't even know that they'd moved again onto rt 29. Or am I mistaking them for a different shop?

I used to race with Jimmy back in the day. (he was in A and I was in B 250's) They've always seemed like nice folks. Just lot's of bad luck. May be some bad decisions, too. It would be a shame to see them lose their business. Tough when you can't make a living doing what you love.

vabuckaroo - James said that his dad Jimmy was 74 yesterday, "back in the day" must have been a looong time ago. James maybe (before he was injured)?
Van H. was an "A" 250 rider also, rode for Wayne's but later worked at Jarman's.

XC - Same shop, yes they move a lot. 10th street to 250 then 29 (just in Sept.). Many other locations over the years.

    Hey Ted,
In 1969 we lived in Northern Va near MT Vernon. My Father told my brother and I to stand on the front porch and not to leave. About ten minutes later here he comes down Sherwood Hall Lane with the same Rupp same engine (ours was a cinnamon color), we were shocked! Changed my life and have loved bikes ever since.

James raced MX back in the 80's. He went by Jimmy then. ( I think) There was another guy, Jimmy Pigg, who also raced 250 A. I think his mom was D13 secretary or something.

Cool. Must have been something about those Rupp's that caused us both to end up with Transalps!

I went from a first bike Steens/Hodaka (backwards shift pattern) to Bultacos (wrong side shift) to Hondas - including a Transalp.

This was one of my earliest strangest bikes. '65 M50. Don't know how my dad came up with this one. Wish I had it now...actually no, I don't... :lol3

What were some of your early bikes besides the famous Rupps?

OK, my pix aren't as pretty as hppyfngy's. My '66 Yamaha Trailmaster 100 (bought it about 200 yards form tuffstuff's house), Rupp, CX500, CB750 (bought it with those slightly extended forks - handled weird).

My YZ125, pix taken at the MX track in Waynesboro when there was one. My buddy Scott from Earlysville riding it just before I bought it, he bought a new Monoshocker when they first came out. That's a Rickman on the end - not sure why he's picking it up.

Pix of my TL125 Trials bike, others are on slides.

Cool Ted. :D Did you weigh a buck even with your boots on?

I don't know if I have any actual pictures of my early bikes. Of course that pic wasn't my M50...

I weighed 144, same as now, same as when I graduated from HS :1drink
The YZ pix are of my lightweight friend Scott. He was a tech at Wayne's, I took the pix while he was racing it, bought it from him shortly after this race. He installed laydown shocks just before I got it, not in the pix. That YZ was a great bike.

My first bike, after I cleaned it up, swapped out some parts and had it painted, probably around 1992. Location is a barn near the Greenwood Grocery out on 250.

Live in Richmond, VA and looking to ride out near C'ville. Aside from BRP and Skyline Dr. where are some good trails to ride out there without getting locked up.

My favorite places are the jeep road off Coal Rd at Sherando (better to ride that with a buddy in my opinion but lots of riders do it alone. I wouldn't but I'm the careful one here), any of the gravel roads north-west of Earlysville (from my starting point) up along Flattop, and everywhere around Rapidan up near Madison. Usually meandering will get you pretty much anywhere nice as long as you are ok with a mix of pavement and dirt. The guys on this thread know the area much better than me, but these are my favorite places. Post when you are in the area!
