Did the same thing a week ago and was surprised to find Otter Creek closed. It looks like it's going to be several months before it reopens. Peaks however is supposed to open in a week or two. They signed with a new management company last year and have been renovating. Word is that two new things will be in the rooms at the lodge...TV and WiFi.

Wished I would have known. Man was I hungry. End up at a gas station eatin Dr. Pepper and crackers. Awesome riding day in all! Do many Cville riders plan any meet & greets. Read logs of stuff but not much riding. I do lots of gravel and pavement right now. One year ago today the wife and I met the NOVA group headed for Devils Backbone and we hit a deer on the way. I am still recouping but still ride, just not the rough stuff.

Nothing ever happens on that first thread. :D When I start back up with the RTE's I need to have one or two RTE's down near Cville.

I just found this just a couple days ago too...

Maybe you Cville folks should start one of these, using the Cville tag boundary...

Had an ass-kicking work-out this evening with the Fight-Gone-Mad crew in town. A little like cross-fit and a little like Army PT. :lift
(It was a little toasty working outside) :jkam
It'll be cool when their gym opens next month.

Hi all. I don't chime in much- more of a lurker but appreciate this thread/group. I have a question you guys can help with if you've got a minute...may seem unrelated but its related as far as I'm concerned. May help us all.

For better or worse I do most of my riding alone. I know, always best to buddy up (esp offroad) but, like many, mine's a busy life so the bike is my favorite get away. A good cell signal is sometimes invaluable (break downs, directons/maps, etc.) and at other times just good peace of mind.

I'm on AT&T, and while I'm amazed to say my exp w/ them has been reliable/positive overall the cell coverage in the outlying counties/back roads sucks appreciably. Down in Nelson I find it to be lacking, out in the Fork Union area, and many others. As Murphy (of said Law) rules my life with an iron fist I don't wish to further tempt fate (now that my contract is up time to make a switch.)

Which provider are you guys getting good, broad, coverage from? If you don't mind sharing I'd appreciate it. I tend to ride w/in a 1-1.5 hour radius of C'ville....back roads, gravel roads, mountain gravel roads, any kinds of jeep/fire road type of trails.

    Thanks all!

I have a company phone but it's Verizon and the coverage has been great...better than ATT I had before. YMMV I have an office in CVille and never had any problems all the way to Winchester area. Once in a while it drops going over Afton Mtn.

Verizon. The data can get a bit weak in the mountains but the voice stuff has been really solid. Most everyone I know feels the same way; it's expensive but it is the best coverage for our area.

I have Verizon as well. Same problem as you...most of my rides are alone. Even on Blakey, I have enough of a signal to send a text.

Sprint is actually very solid around here too. Everyone says Verizon is solid.

I recently switched to ATT and it's a little lacking in areas, (it's much better than it was ten years ago,) but very good in WV where sometimes Verizon isn't.

Verizon seems to work well for me given all the options available. I have a tracfone that uses AT&T's towers for when I go to WV. If you frequent 33 there isn't any Verizon signal between Harrisonburg and Canaan Valley even in Franklin or Seneca Rocks.

You're right didn't mean to mislead...nothing is good at Seneca Rocks except the pizza, beer, and views!

Thinking about going to South Pedlar tomorrow. Anyone been out there recently, or have any idea if it's going to be a mud bath?

Went to South Pedlar yesterday. Mud wasn't too bad. Slick in some corners. Overall pretty good.
