keep it quiet, until after I get one. They have mapping by navteq which apparently are the largest GPS mapping concern in the world. it would be good to see some competition for sensis

It does say navteq Version 7. Can anyone shed any light on the currency of that version?

    Cheers

I think Navteq, Sensis etc all supply data to GPS firms .. so that does not identify the manufacture .. and if you want to update the map (or even put somethine else on like Europe) you'll need to know that ..

But as someone has already pointed out the cost of a map update could be more than the unit costs ...

Some Aldi stores put tomorrows' items on the shelves tonight (Wed) .. if you have the time to look.

NavTeq don't actually use version numbers they use 08/07 (for Aug 07) map data. Probably a 2007 release and probably includes LCT

Looks like a standard POS chinese box. You get what you pay for

    It's Aldis house brand.
Generally they are very good about warranty and parts aren't even worth considering at that price.

that is right.. if it breaks take it in and get a new one.. unlike most others which need sending away to be repaired/replaced

Aldi generally just do 100% swap for the warranty period (12 months?)

After that it is throw away time.
Usage support, forget it. Map upgrades, what ?
If you factor in these then it may still be a good deal for you.

Check out how easy it is to use before you buy. If you have to ask more than 3 questions then it isn't. See above about support.

    I sell and support GPS
I don't sell fridges or groceries

I understand all this mate.. I used to work for a Garmin re-seller..

Here is the thing though.. If its just a unit for the wifes car or for the bike to get around..

@ $180 I'd still be ahead after 2 years if I had to buy another in 13 mnths time.. but they wouldn't have any for sale though I suppose..

also - there are a lot of people out there who just want one to tell their mates they have one.. FFS - I see the things on in peoples cars dropping the kids at school and going to work.. What ?? you dont know where the school and work is ??? it's just another "must have" accessory and they'll sell out of these in a few days I reckon

As a side note.. we've had a Tevion Aldi tele in the bedroom for about 3.5 yrs now.. till works

So did anyone get one? ... or did you all get lost trying to find your way to Aldi without a GPS :evil :rofl

on a more serious note ... one of the women at work here got her car broken into ... smashed side window, when she reported it to the insurance company they asked her if she had a GPS mount on her windscreen (she did but had left the GPS at home) apparently thieves target the cars with the GPS mounts as they can offload the GPS's quite easily, and even removing the mount isn't enough if the tell tale round sucker mark is still on the windscreen!
