My wife, two of the daughters, 2.5 year old granddaughter, and granddaughter 2.0 (four months) are going to the zoo the weekend of August 23rd.
We'd appreciate any leads on cheap places to stay, best deal we've found was still almost $150 a night. :huh

    Thanks,

I don't have any positive suggestions for you, but don't be tempted to stay anywhere on Aurora [us99] near the zoo, as the drug and related activity stuff is thick along there. Most of it is up north of 80th, but it tapers off both north and south from there. Not much will be cheap as it is the tourist season.

+1 for avoiding aurora options. You are kinda limited to farther north, UW area, south lake union, and lower Queen Anne. None of which are very close.

I think your going to have to pay those rates unless you stay in one of said sleasy motels on Aroura.
And do not leave anything of value visible in your car anywhere in Seattle.

IIRC, the Marco Polo on Aurora is not too bad and within 10 blocks of the zoo. My recollection is from 6 years ago. YMMV

If you are willing to go to West Seattle, check out the city park next to the golf course. It is a former boy scout camp with rough cabins. double bunk beds sleep 6 or 8, nice shower/restroom facilities are a short walk on paved paths. Fire pit, grill, picnic table. Take your sleeping bags. $50 per night for 1 cabin 2 years ago.
