I rode my 01 KLR650 (no longer have) 400 miles from San Diego to Mammoth.
    That was painful.

I have helped Bob,the ironmandualsport guy, pre ride and lay out some of his rides, the Circumnavigator is a good one for sure.
Just for variety there is some great riding on the west side of the valley, over towards Elk Creek and up road 313 or Hull road, one and the same, many designated jeep trails and the main fireroad is a flattrackers dream. Its about 50 miles across the valley to get to the start of the dirt riding. Trucking bikes over isnt out of the question for more serious dirt dual sports, there is generally gas at Elk Creek. I used to trailride over there alot but not sure of where the trails are nowadays.
I would be up for a ride over that way sometime.

Some buddys and I are off to the flattrack races in Calistoga next weekend.
Should be good! Im riding the DR with the street wheels on it.

Like the avatar says, I'm from Oroville. I have a KTM 950 S and I would like to go exploring some new stuff. I have done the Poker Flat ride from La Porte to Downieville and the Henness Pass ride from Camptonville to Verdi NV. Those are a couple of good rides.

Foot Dragger knows the area real well.
Somebody should put together a ride.
    I'll go.

Hey Doug, hows that 950 working out? Has it been off road much yet? Ive only been dirt riding in this area since 1972 or so,Ive got a general idea which way most dirt roads go.
Sometimes I head up Centerville road till it turns to dirt, pop out on the skyway and down to Coutolink road then take that to Jordan hill road, then take a left on V-line and head to Rag dump, from there I can navigate on dirt over to Pulga and up to Granite Basin on the far side of hi-way 70,from there to Bucks lake for lunch. Lots of good loops to ride around here.

I haven't been riding the KTM much lately. I did get up to the Gold Lake area a few weeks ago. I have been spending all of my time on my bicycle getting ready for a 24 hour race this coming weekend. After that is over I will be ready to do some riding.

I don't think your tiger would have been very happy on the last couple of miles we rode. Pretty rocky.:D redog1

I had just the opposite reaction about the rocks. I have spent plenty of time bashing thru that type of terrain and finding it to be great fun. That was some time ago and on better off-road bikes. Although I am pretty sure I can get my GS thru that kind of stuff if necessary, its not the kind of off-road ride I enjoy anymore. I will try and watch for any proposed rides that might be more my style. Hope to meet some of you at some point.

I'm just not up there that often and rarely have the full day that I can take to ride. I'll be glad when I get move up there hopefully by next spring, then I'll be all in:clap.

    Enjoy your ride!

we're going to connect and ride one day. I'd like to meet you. The familyoffroadadveture rides are a little pricy for me. I'd like to do them but have a hard time justifing the expense when I can go on my own, not to mention I don't care for large groups. Small groups 3-5 people ok or on my own, ok, but large groups get too clickish for me. I'm not that kind of person. I'll be in the area the weekend of the 21st but unfortunately I won't have my bike.:cry

My recreation finances are at a minimum right now. Even a $13 tank of gas would be splurging right now. I should be all set in a couple of weeks though. Maybe sooner if one of the jobs I've been waiting to hear from goes through.

I'm up for a ride on Saturday. I have been thinking about this ride that turns to dirt not too far out of Oroville and goes past Feather Falls. You then take the road to Mooretown ridge and end up in La Porte. From there we can go to Johnsville and end up at Mowhawk (Near Graeagle). From there we can decide how to get back (Bucks Lake, canyon, Almanor).

We can do that or something else. Doesn't matter much to me as long as I go riding.
