I am in Southern Chile now. I really liked the coast road going into Antofagasta and later Valparasio. Do't skip em. Dave

    Chile and Argentina.

I plan on riding down the western side of S.A. and will be crossing the border between Chile and Argentina several times on my way to the Carretera Austral. What is the process of crossing the border so many times?

    Multi entry visas?
Cancel at imigracion, but NOT at Aduana each time I cross?
    Insurance?

    Thank you,

I'm going to be in this area in 2 weeks and I can't wait. It is my first time in South America and my first time on this kind of ride. Being my first time, it will be with a tour group and I know that isn't exactly up to ADVrider standards, but circumstances came together to make this happen.

I'm a bit curious about the weather. From what I can find, it looks like average highs are in the upper 60s and lows in the upper 40s (f). That is about ideal to me, but I am a bit concerned about mountain passes. I have heated gear that I can bring, but I would rather not pack all of that if its not needed. Are there areas that stay below 50f this time of year?

I just got back, it was incredible, like a dream. We sat out front of a lodge drinking high quality Chilean wine and watched the sun go down over the Torres del Paine.

This town is very cool indeed. We hung around this little wine bar until we became hazards to navigation and then staggered back to the hotel. Everyone was quite friendly but this place was my favorite. I think it was called the Wine Hut and the young woman tending bar was both very attractive and quite charming and took excellent care of us. A must see for sure!

El Calafate, AR is more upscale but Puerto Natales is more earthy, artsy. Both are quite nice and I didn't want to leave.

I just returned from 10 days in and around El Calafate and Torres del Paine and they are both awesome places. Perito Moreno Glacier is not to be missed. Either is Torres del Paine. The roads around both are spectacular. Wine is not too bad either....
