Anyone here ever attend the Chimney Rock Hill Climb back in the day?
The car hill climb? SCCA, Solo I, time trial event?
SCCA, car hill climb
Back in the 90's, when I was into car track days, I knew a few folks who competed in it.
I went many years. John Finger owned that place for a long time, He had a two rotor Mazda powered skateboard of a car with enough wings to fit on a sprint car. He only had one other man give him a hard time UNTIL John Buffum showed up with his factory Audi Quarttro group C rally car. The car, the driver,INSANE . That weekend was unforgettable.
Dude, I was there!!
Mike Green was his nemesis; and Jerry Kreft in the Bandit was fast as hell!
Hans Stuck, Walter Rohrl, John Buffum, and another driver; can't remember, maybe Hurley.
We always sat in the S curves after 7 or 8, past the announcers booth. I remember the Quattro coming through there with three tires in the air and the one on the ground was smoking! I've never seen a car abuse pavement like that thing!
I'd love to chat about the race some time!
