May be BB has gone off to buy this JH600 I suggested and is having a great time running it in. Or the Chengdu girls have got him...
I wish him luck and will keep an eye out when I am in that area.
Nop, just noticed that he has sent me 2 PM a couple of days back. He is alright . Got a new bike and will be meeting up with me on 28/5 hopfully.
Don't no body worry about nuffin'. Robert, Chris and I stuffed ourselves with tex-mex last night and this afternoon we plan on getting him hooked up with some proper maps. BB's taking care of business and he should be back on-line shortly to update the story. A new day cometh... patience, vitrues and all that...
Franki, Monday the 28th I won't be able to make it to Mianyang. According to your schedule, you all will be riding about 5-600kms in three days! I hope they're taking you the long route because you could make the trip in one day.
You'll hear from me after you arrive. If you stop near Chengdu, which sounds likely, we can meet up and toss one back. Would love to compare experiences of your rides in Tibet.

Great to hear from you CC. I won't make it to Chengdu this time as I need to be back in Chongching 30/5 and fly to Beijing the next day. My schedule is pretty much fixed by Jialing but a couple of friends from Chengdu will come to Mianyang to see me. I will also bring my Tibet trip video in DVD. If Jialing can allow, I would like to show it to the +60 riders from all over China who came to test the JH600. Anyway, please call my China mobile after 26/5 2 pm. I should be landed by then.
A very inspiring adventure Beemer Boy. Thanks for sharing a real adventure ride into areas most of us will never see. I kinda feel like a "wanna be" adventure rider after reading your posts!

My new ride !! A Qingqi 200 CC dual sport bike. Plenty of power but
still very light weight. 18 inch rear tire and 21 inch front. Wavy front brake
rotor, with steel braided brake line. Five speed gearbox, and a 520 chain.
Standard switch gear including a high beam flasher. Also gear position indicator. Overall a pretty well done bike. Total cost off the dealer floor is $ 1225.00 USD. Runs like a swiss watch, a real blast around town.
This is an awesome thread, I'm glad to hear you are set up with a mount again! Have abgreat time over there, and hopefully this bike will be a bit better than the last one.

Have a good time on your new bike - and stop into the internet cafe and tell us more of your adventures. RR's can suck a lot of time out of you, but ya gotta be off the steed occassionally to take food shots
It is amazing how quickly stylistic changes (looks vaguely LC4-like -- finders, rotor, rear lens, etc.) are coming to Chinese bikes, and especially this Quingqi 200 4-stroke. It looks better than what is being imported here in the states. A great replacement for the idiosyncratic zippy.
Hi Stu: I remember using a lot of words about Zippy when I was working on it endlessly, but I do not remember using the phrase " idiosyncratic zippy". I seem to recall using lots of words that use only four letters......
It was sort of fun getting the bike prepped up and ready to ride. First stop is to go the the mega parts place. Have never even dreamed a place like that existed. Think it was called the parts city, and that was close to reality. There were literally hundreds of small shops selling every conceivable part for small bikes, with most of them specialised. Some shops were only mirrors, some were only suspensions, some only engines, and etc. etc. Within the giant building itself there were little streets of more parts. It was truly amazing.

First up though was some welding pain for the bike. Needed my rear cargo plate attached, and some stand off bars made for the soft bags. It seemed sort of funny to me to own a bike for 18 hours and then be welding away on it.. One of the beauties of an inexpensive bike. And yes I disconnected the battery and also the CDI unit before they started. Did not want a " Long Way Around" fiasco with a burned up bike from welding on it.....
Now bars being fitted. Using my phrase book I indicated to the shop guy that I had been a welder for 4 years. After that they paid a lot more attention to my fabrication advice !!!
Now time for BLING !!!!! Bought the usual spare parts. Clutch cable, front and back tubes, clutch and brake levers, spare master link, and assorted small stuff.
Riding around slowly pretty soon I see a very professional looking shop. Parked in front is the motard version of my bike getting a new HID lighting system. Hey !!!!!! Just what I always wanted, a bike with a HID system... How much I ask ?? Answer, about 45 dollars. Yippee bring it on !! Then add in bar ends, hand guards, and some other small things the bike needed. Also changed the oil after only
200 kilometers just in case there was " residual swarf" floating around. However the oil was perfectly clean. Here the bike is in the middle of its makeover.
And now finished !!
Wired up the bike for the GPS and added in an outlet for the electric vest. Now the bike is ready to rock and roll . I also decided my little Casio pocket camera was not cutting it anymore so went out today and bought a new camera. It is a Sony DSC-H9. Think is about right for me doing a lot of traveling due to its small size. Will start taking pictures tomorrow with it, so if my pictures start looking more " arty" that is why. A couple more days of relaxing here, and then the open road. Chengdu is a nice place, but do not want to be " The sailor who fell from grace from the sea"............But first I need to go check out the pandas.

Thanks again for reporting! What a wonderful trip. New bike looks much better than previous, and sure will make for a much more enjoyable ride - congrats! Also good you can find so many parts for it, and still small enough to be able to take on any dirt you want. Best of luck!

I'm in china now, way out west in kashgar, came in from biskek over the tourgart pass, awsome views up there. I gather your in Chengdu at the moment, if your heading north i'm going to be in Xi'an for the 17th of june or in beijing by the 5th of july.
I'm not on a motorbike tho, i'm doing a trip with a company called dragoman, iff you see a huge orange and white truck that looks like this give us a wave. Alternativly if you see someone with a adv shirt on it'll most likely be me.

I leave Chengdu headed for Xian tomorrow. Then will work my way west and then south. I have seen a couple of those giant sort of adventure trucks running around Laos. The one I looked at closely was pretty well set up inside. Are you headed to Lhasa or will you stay in the northwest part ?? Looks like we will pass each other somewhere so keep in touch. If I see your truck blasting towards me I will be sure to give it a wide berth !!
