Gwhis - I'll drive if you want to go. Or we can both ride Harley's up if that interests you. :D Let me know.

I had planned to be riding south today for an 8-day backpacking trip at Mt. Mitchell, NC next week. But my wife had to have hand surgery yesterday (nothing serious) so I'm driving down Saturday. Yeah I got some real hubby points for opting to be nursemaid instead of advman. :deal

Sounds:earlike a plan, decide :fpalm where you want me to meet you.
Nice of you to offer the Harleys but the route there would not be the best choice for a nice ride.

Bill checked the valves, no clearance on both intake valves!
Hope a valve adjustment fixes it.
Will send the radiator off tomorrow to have leak repaired.

Can't make it tonight...wife is working late so I have to go home and take care of the pups. Hopefully, in the next few weeks I'll have a new ride for the trails

I'd love too, but I'm new at this and it may be a bit much.I'm assuming this is not paved, right?

Maybe a mile or two of pavement. :D

motoxer667, would this trip require camping equipment?

Looking at a very reasonably priced late model 690 Enduro if the guy will ever get back to me. Otherwise, I found a very low mile, unmolested DRZ that I'll farkle the hell out of :D I can put a big tank on that guy and not have to siphon your gas anymore :clap

Thanks for the heads up...I'll wait until (and if) I get the bike before I start buying parts. They come up pretty often though. I really think the 690 would be a better fit for me but I'm not shelling out $10k for a new one when I don't ride all that much.

Bad news came today, turns out that an exhaust valve guide came loose and it needs 2 intake valves. So much for the 6 days of MI this year. Any suggestions on a place to have the head fixed? Talked to LA Sleeve $365 / $515 + shipping 2 week turnaround.
