I recently saw a blue/white DR650 doing laps down near the stadium and in the spirit of dualsporting he was backfiring and making a racket. Saw a woman on a bmw 650 dakar of some sort around rookwood commons a month ago or so which was a surprise.

Jan 3-4 sounds good for a movie as i wont be around until the first of the year.

Yes I did. I took a short 31 year break from motorcycling and thought I should jump back in.

The KLR appears to be well taken care of and I appreciate it. The engine seams pretty smooth to me, and I wondered if you had the doohickey done, or if you just never had any issues. Ray Pope says the doohickey problem is caused when owners adjust the tension while the KLR is on the kickstand leaning over.

I know I bought a 9 year old used bike, and would just appreciate any information or tips for its care or maintenance you could provide.

    What oil did you run?

What is the make of rear bag rack?

    Anything need attention now?

Again, I appreciate any information you could provide.

Tim you might want to remove your contact info from your signature...this is not a private forum and the nefarious net denizens will exploit it.

    Oh, and welcome!

    Hey all,

I've posted on here a few times recently and thought I should intro myself. I've been riding dirt bikes for ~40 years. Raced some MX, GNCC, hare scrambles over the years without any claim to fame. Managed a National #6 in VetB Hare Scrambles one year. But you in the know realize that means I just showed up to a few more races than other, faster guys.

Have ridden KTM300's ever since I can remember. Bought a 2010 990Adventure a few years ago in anticipation of doing some big boy trail riding upon retirement. Most recently I added a 2013 KTM500 EXC to the stable so I can do more exploring without worrying about legality or having to lift an extra 200 lbs when I fall. But you guys would help pick me up. Right?

    Other vitals:
I've ridden with gwhis once and johnf a number of times as a member of OVTR.
I retired from P&G last year so everyday is Saturday. PM me if you wanna ride.
The longest ride I've taken is a 3800 mile/15-day journey from CO to MT on the Divide Trail. Then across northern ID to WA. South on the WA Backcountry Discovery Route and back to CO. 80% dirt/gravel. Had a blast.

Looking forward to meeting and riding with you guys soon. Movie Night might work for me. DynoBob - I'm interested in learning more about tarps and rigging from you.

I'm in and can't wait. The 2013 trip with the two Bob's (Sr. & Jr.), Collin and Tom was the best time I ever spent on a motorcycle. The things we saw and the things we were able to do was beyond my expectations. I know parts of the trip were way beyond my ability also but I am still strong enough to pick my bike up dust it off and get back on and catch up. God knows I did my share of that in Colorado and Moab. I also ate more potato chips in those 2 weeks than I did the entire rest of the year. Collin cooks some good eggs and home maid pizza is to die. I'm even digging those Mountain House meals, got them down to science now. My bike is clean and I can be ready in less than an hour. Lets get this 2014 trip organized, planned and moving, I am up for more adventures. As everyone know we did not see any bears and the number one thing on my bucket list to pet a bear in the wild or at least tell the story that we did. Let go!

Definitely will keep Sept in mind but I have a few trips already planned for 2014. Put me down as doubtful right now.

I read you (DynoBob) like the trip planning phase. Me too. I've got most of the Benchmark atlases for out west. You're welcome to borrow them if you don't already have them.

Great start on the ride report. I'll be following along.

I'm attending a Wilderness First Aid class in Johnson City on March 1/2 and planning to ride for a few days after the class. I've never ridden this area before but maps make me think there must be a ton of great riding there. If you're interested in going - let me know. Depending on temps and # of responses we can plan our attack.

In case you're interested in the WFA class also - here's the link: http://www.landmarklearning.org/course-calendar.php

Randy, You've brought back old memories - the National Hare Scrambles, Snow riding in Michigan and more (Dodge Caravan transmission failure:waysad). Maybe we can make some more when the good weather returns. I hope to get out west again in '14. I'm trying to find a used 500 KTM EXC for myself even though I'm sure I can't use half of its potential. I need all the help I can get at this age.

Snow riding is a blast. Haven't done it in years (since the 80's), but will do it again someday.

Well you got me there DuckBoy, but really it is so I won't have to wait so long for you in the single track. LOL
