I decided to change my user name while you were gone. I am the former n3986f that had to work instead of take this ride. I was able to console myself last night thinking of you guys in the 20 degree weather :kumbayawhile I was feasting on Texas Roadhouse steak with my wife. (Don't tell my wife, but I would have rather been on the ride.:lol3 )

    So now, I need PICTURES!

Thanks to AZ-Twin, Gulpy Gulch, Twentyniner, and Sacrificial Anode for two great days of riding, warm campfires, cold camping, and great routes. The link below is the gps track of our trip. My gps battery died on the way back home so it didn't track our route back along the border fence in Douglas and Naco.

Lets do it again sometime soon and hopefully more will join.

What a great trip. You can't beat camping in the freazing cold, with the condensation turning to ice on the inside of your tent, that is, if you have a tent.

I still need to download my pics and see if I got anything worthwhile, I will post that later tonight. I am whooped!

I guess I'll start the ball rolling.

The crew at the Bisbee Breakfast Club, getting ready to sally forth with a bellyful of the best breafast in Bisbee!

Az-Twins BMW. Note the IED waiting to happen bungied to the bag. The litre bottle of fuel parted company with Rob's bike somewhere east of Douglas on Geronimo Trail Road.

The DRZ Supermoto, knobblied out. Note the compact set-up, which included a tent and a stove.

Guppies Prarie Schooner, Beverly Hillbillies style. It looks like he's got more stuff than me, but there's no stove or tent on that rig.

Arizona, New Mexico and Old Mexico all meet near here.

    Camping supplies!

I worked New Years Eve, so I celebrated the New Year in the woods.

    Cheers!

Annode. Guinness hat and a flask of ten year old Scotch.

Clay. Pouting because Rob and I ate the extra grilled cheese sammitch instead of bringing it back to camp for him.

We believe that this hat was what the skunk was trying to hump when it woke Guppy up in the middle of the night!

    Fire!

The road to breakfast was paved with...ICE!!!

    Clay, post slide.

    Going nowhere fast.

Even though we froze our asses off(it got down into the twenties!), I had a blast! Can't wait 'till the next one.

Where was lightfighter? He was telling me about this epic ride he was doing, but I don't see him in the pictures? Of course that was BG (before girlfriend).

My jet-black scratch-free DL1000 would have been out of place on this trip....

When I sold my KLR it had plenty of war wounds. But now I keep the DL1000 on the street. I just don't want to rattle it loose on the backroads, I like a smooth highway ride.

You guys ever put together a street-er ride (camping is preferred), I'm in.

Obviously there was not enough room on your bike for a camera. :D

It was cold 7 hours and 2 minutes into the new year just before i left the house.

While on the trail we saw this sign.

Then I turn around and Clay has a knife to Bret's throat?

I guess you can't be too careful.

I find out later the reason Bret's bike is loaded so heavily, yet he seems to have absolutely no camp supplies, is because he thinks he is auditioning for an episode of Ice Road Truckers.

I hope that goes well for you.

We arrive at camp, most of us start to choose a place for our tents, but Clay gather's firewood. Guess which one of us was/is in a branch of the service that is actually familiar with the outdoors.........you guessed it, Clay.

He had this dandy fire going when we got back from the restaurant.

The next morning I was the first one out of the tent, man it was cold, lots of frost on stuff, and we all had frozen water bottles and camelbaks.

Bret's camping setup. He prefers to embrace the outdoors, and sometimes yell at it. But you can see his minimalist approach to camping here.

We warm up, pack up, and head for breakfast.

All in a row in front of the breakfast place.

After breakfast Mark asked about his front tire looking flat, it looked low but we pressed on as I grossly misjudged the pressure in his tire. At the first gas stop a few miles up the road checking with a gauge revealed it had 5psi or so, here he is airing it up.

The roads on the ride home offered all sorts of conditions.

    ice
    [IMG]

    mud
    [IMG]

    hardened ruts

    and poo

After that we took a brief break, then we decided we were anxious to get home and started to boogie.

There was some fast dirt heading south to Douglas.

My picture taking ended with a couple shots along the boarder road.

If you did not get to go on this ride you missed a great time. Thanks all who went, this was a blast.

I didn't really get anything unique, but a few different angles:

Clay and Brett ready for Breakfast. Clay, Mark, and Rob looked pretty cold by the time they arrived from Sierra Vista

    Gassing up in Douglas
    [IMG]

cool place to stop sort of halfway between Douglas, Arizona and Animas, New Mexico.

    I loved this view
    [IMG]

This is how cold it was at about 10 in the morning. In the direct sun, the puddle was still frozen
    [IMG]

Checking out the cafe - pretty handy to the campsite. Only about 7 miles, but LOTs of ice and snow on the road. I was too terrified to stop and get pics of the icey road. And once I got past, I was too relieved to stop.

I guess Brett thought he'd get a better signal inside the telephoneless booth. What else would it be for?

Plenty of room at the campsite. Clay's on the left looking for firewood, establishing a perimeter, or taking a no-handed leak. I didn't look too closely.

An hour after we got up, my bike still looked like this. The inside of the tent was frosted too.

I didn't get any pictures of my semi-hard fall, I was too busy trying to remember how to breath. But here's spot. By the time the 8 second buzzer blew and I got spit off, the bike was perpendicular to the road. It looked worse up close and personal.

Here's the only damage - a bent water bottle and saddlebag fastex piece now giving the ADV Rider salute
    [IMG]

Any way, thanks to Twentyniner, claycraig, AZTwin, and Guppy Gulch for putting this ride together. It was my first extended dual sport ride, and it was cool.

I want to do the ride I had planned for last Sunday before I found out I had to work.

    Meet at The Diner on 92 at 8:00 A.M. for a pre-ride breakfast.:dg

Take Montezuma Pass out to Sonoita. Fast dirt and gravel for this part.

From Sonoita we will head up to Gardiner Canyon where there is a loop of more technical :evil jeep trails that I've ridden on the MTB but not the Moto.

If anyone is still in the mood to ride more after this, we can cross Hwy 83 and bang around the Cienegas a bit.

Lunch: Bring a sammich or a sanguich, your choice. We'll find a nice scenic spot and have a little picnic.

    Who's in? :ear

If y'all do this ride, somebody grab a gps and post up the track so we can add it to the rides choice for the Desert Daze.

I've been wondering what kind of shape Montezuma is in. I'd heard form someone down in Patagonia last week that it was snowed so ended up not going over.
