Art festival is this weekend in Patagonia.
Sounds like fun and I might be able to make that ride, depending on details.
Ok, I'll lead:
Saturday. 9am. Hereford post office, ready to ride.
Destination, Sunnyside via International Border road, lunch in Patagonia, quick way home. Big, fat, overweight bikes, no camping gear, tools optional. The border is in different trim pretty much every week. Could be like fresh pavement, could be moderately dicey, never "hard", but I'll be riding with due regard to the bottom of my BMW motor, and the fact that my son needs a living father anyway.
Skinny little dirt bikes can come if you don't have a big kid bike. The return leg will be a valve burner on anything with an 8 hour service interval.
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Saturday mornings don't work for me (right now) because my boys play football. 2 more weeks of games and they're done.
Have fun...I want in on that trip sometime, though.
I'll be volunteering at a MWR event on post with the wife on Saturday. I just ordered a bunch of parts for the XR and have it almost back together. Countershaft is on the way out and I pulled the bike apart to the point all I had to do is unbolt the motor mounts...and then decided that I don't want to get 1/2 way through a project with a move 3 weeks away (moving down to SV since the 30 min ride/drive from Benson is kicking my ass lately). Hopefully with the wider XR650R countershaft sprocket it will prolong what's left of the life of the countershaft (splines are worn pretty bad). It will give me a project to work on this winter or next year depending on how it wears. So with that said...I should be back up for a dirt ride any time after this weekend. If anyone wants to do a slab ride the Tard is ready to go...
Look into the KTM 990/950 Adventure as well. I have an '05 950 that does just what you're looking for, IMO.
Been a while since I've checked this thread, or even spent much time on this site for that matter. I'm IN for Saturday. I should have my TKCs by tomorrow, so I'll be able to rally the new Super Tenere in the dirt a bit better than with the stock road tires.
I recently bought my Tenere for more two-up, highway type riding. It works great for that, and seems to do alright in the dirt also, although I probably won't take it to all the places my DRZ loves to go.
Just got back into town today. If anyone's up for a weekday ride let me know. I'll probably be riding a couple days this week. Lunch in Patagonia sure sounds good, but I'm not sure about Saturday - might be family day. Sunday's a maybe too - looks like I'm going to make a run down to Copper Canyon and will probably leave Sunday or Monday.
Sounds good. Should I bring the 650 or the 990?
There's gonna be a super 10 in the house....
I ride a big fat BMW.....
So the only question is, has the 990 been moved out of the living room yet?
Nice ride last weekend....
Noticed the BMW open house at Iron Horse is on Nov 3rd...
Not sure I can go yet, but if I did, I'd possibly go thriogh post, west gate to sonoita, Tucson via Madera canyon.... Jus sayin....
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Gonna be out of town that weekend. Have fun!
Found a road, rode down it.
That's a big rock!
It's pretty here!
Oh, this is where the road goes.
And then I turned around because it wasn't going in the right direction at all, and I had a hot date for dinner.
Hello Cochise County! I'm new to ADV and currently building up a DR650 in Tucson. Been riding all my life, but haven't been off-road in about a million years. Last dirt bike was a '74 Husky 390! Will watch your thread for upcoming rides and hope I can tag along. I have no idea where to go in Southern AZ to ride so I'll appreciate the tribal knowledge you guys all possess. Thanks!
Welcome to the region and the site Godzillat2. No shortage of riding in SE AZ for the DR.
Hey Mergatroyd, that sure looks like the doubletrack NW of the Johnson rd. If so did you see this?
It is a stones throw away.
Looking forward to the Desert season soon!
It's off the westbound onramp just north of Dragoon. I don't know if it has a name. I don't think the gate was locked, and there was an earlier offshoot that I didn't go down.
I did find another one that hared off into the wilderness off of the Pomerene exit frontage road, but again it was going in the wrong direction.
and I'm kind of in charge of organizing this:
Goodbye KLR... Hello Tenere!
You already get it?
