Great pics... probably a wise decision to not impregnate the bartender.

How are those tires holding up?

We're just over a month in and it becoming a bit of a haze with so much stimuli but in a good way. Lots of movement lots of fun.

First time over this IP. The road has some skinny sections near Aspen. We enjoyed seeing this Global Expedition Vehicle squeeze through!

Even if I had silly money I wouldn't. But cool and I appreciate the overkill aspect.

If your on the Aspen side of the pass check out this little hidden gem - The Grottos!

9 months it's an ice cave but in the summer ya can't go as deep unless ya get wet.

We hiked and hung for the morning before heading up the pass. But not just grottos there are a half dozen cascades with deep clear plunge pits!

    Absolutely ripping with snow melt!

I've hiked more this trip than ever and at times enjoy the slower pace compared to 4th gear pinned. I'm also a weirdo cause I love the leg and lung burn from the elevation and steep grades. It's like running in FL but without running and I'm a lazy runner so it's perfect!

    And up we went!

Airport drop off in Montrose this morning then the Wanker invasion back in Pitkins! Perpetual motion.

Thanks JD, it was cool to see the color change as the sun came up.
    From this...

    To this in an hour!

    And this should be interesting?

My first directive was to swap that front tire.

And in proper Team Wanker style they brought their cloud of sadness (rain) so I did what comes natural....
Half way done - time for a union break!

    Pure nasty "Fatty" Golden!

And the fodder pix created post tire change cause not a single Wanker materialized to provide tire changing moral support.

And whose getting the "soft cock" award?

#22 High Alpine Brewing in Gunnison. A visit that contained two firsts for FU.
    1. My first basil beer, like it!
    2. Shared a hummus app with another man?

Although no pizza this visit they make quality mini pizzas that are pared with their beer. And a cool upper deck overlooking the main intersection in town.

I wasn't expecting to go into town that afternoon but shit happens! Not to me, but it happens.

Now we both have American Flag Mtn tats, his 5 stitches and mine in proper ink!

For those that have been up there on the hill (12,400') there has been a new more stout flag erected. Looks good!

Nice ride up. Doctor Park to Flag Creek to Old Italian Creek Rd. Now don't think real road...... a CO road?

    Yea, he was there.

On the ride one bike decided to eat an operators poorly lashed down favorite hoodie? Stuck like Chuck!

Tight working conditions on the ST. And what are friends for? One pissing and one documenting the sadness!

We headed back over Cumberland Pass to Pitkins facing these clouds.

A genuine concern. Our destination is the right side of the below photo and we made it back about 10 min before the rain and hail.

High above Cumberland Pass - tuff extra climb must be an extra 1500 vertical feet above the pass?

Would you drop in this rarely used unknown single track?

WOW......That's Randy with the bloody arm.

Last year his buddy Todd was the first injury that required stitches on our trip.

Looks like those 2 need to ride with a paramedic from now on.

(easy for me to say. I broke my leg last year. LOL)

I can't believe Randy and Todd rode to American Flag from Pitkin.

They didn't even like that ride from Dinner Station in Taylor Park.

Maybe if you guys rode Timberline and Star Trail on the way out and back.

Those seem to be the only 2 trails they somewhat liked in Taylor Park.

Ask them about the trail going to Aspen when leaving from Dinner Station. That was the trail they liked more than any other.

WOW! We are going out in August on Motorcycles with motorcycles in tow. I found many Jeep off road guide books, but I have not found any single track guides. Can you recommend any? We went last year and explored many of these roads, they don't suck, but they are not single track. 20170716_105052.jpg

The latitude 40 maps are popular. They show single track.

Go to Taylor Park for some of the best single track around.

Bill, long chunky climb up. GoPro makes it look flat!

Hectic pace the last few days but lots of great riding and just as many good laughs! Fun to share the fellowship with good friends.

We did Canyon Creek up and Quartz down yesterday. Real sketch stuff at the top!

This is one of those CO trails that really makes you earn that 12,300' stunning view! Here's looking in the direction we dropped down into.

    And where we came up.

When you break out of treeline and enter the bowl it's about the most amazing feeling but your not up yet and the altitude steals a gear!

    Yea, the pompom!

And I borrowed Eloy's rain gear!

Last Wanker ride this morning and a loading party this afternoon. I'll move to Ouray tomorrow then Silverton as the Tour winds down.

The jackets off - you know I must've been doing work!

Although the final Wanker ride started with a flat 6 miles in it was still an other epic day on the mountain!

I made that tire swap 6 days earlier and set it at minimum pressure - 11psi and never checked it again???? Poor protocol 100%!

Sucked but the team jumped in and everyone played a role to make it a quick fix. Except the individual responsible for confirming it was poke not a pinch. Yea off, on then off again for the second patch - Wanker!

More single track stoke on Fossil Ridge and a trip to Boulder Lake a dream like high elevation lake below 13,000' peaks.

But all good things must eventually come to a end.

    Military level of organization!

    But still Wankers!

    Late lunch loading party.

Then off to town for one last night of fellowship! Lots of fellowship!

Off to Ouray for the weekend and back to being a solo hobo.

#23 Ouray Brewing with a great roof top beer drinking deck!

    Fun stuff!

A great spot to hang on a grey afternoon. FJ Summit was going down that weekend. Lots of Yota stuff.

But lots of other cool junk rolling around town! The Main Street is an up hill on a pretty severe side angle and the rigs with soft suspension really look cool flexing as the roll through.

I was parked on Main St and noticed an odd traffic pattern out the side window?

Seeing wildlife like this is part of the CO allure.

And careful with those suds. Ouray was just a stop visit. My hard target that day was Silverton via the 30 mile stretch of the deadly million dollar highway!

Spoiling myself in a campsite with 3 nights of hot shower, electric, interweb and walking distance to town for $40.00
    I'd say well deserved!

I made it back alive with zero driving incidents in two 16 hr days!

My last few days in Silverton were bitter sweet. Amazing high country exploration, last bit of CO and another flat.

It's a real nice way to finish The Tour. Good camp $40.00 for 3 nights, walking distance to town, trails out the back door and cell.

I picked up a nail on Engineer Pass at 12,200' and 30 miles from camp. Glad I had practice the ride before? Yea, two rides and 2 flats.

Again I broke protocol and started riding directly up to the mines. Years ago I was told that by doing that you increase your chances of collecting nails. Preventable but I roll prepared.

Next violation of protocol was to yank the tube without removing the nail (how did I not see it?). Looked quick but assumed pinch flat and in the removal process ripped a inch long gash in my tube.

4 patches, 2 removals and I was rolling! Very glad that last and most massive patch held cause it was starting to rain.

Perhaps it was CO's way of saying GTFO!

Oh yea, on my final ride as I coasted into town the front patch gave out! So patches can fail.

I add some air and made it the few blocks to the Brewery for some celebratory sudsskis!

Not nearly as disheartening as 3 days earlier cause camp was within eyesight!

There was still some daylight so I replaced the tube for the trip home and curiosity sake. Loaded up, showered and into walked to town for my final CO evening!

#24 Golden Block Brewery in downtown Silverton.

Super nice owner - Felix who sat down and asked about The Tour. I got the impression that although he loved his biz he missed the freedom that the responsibility of ownership has taken from him? Summers are hectic and most of the income is generated in the 90 days its not frozen. Fun time and the old bitches we're getting down! I fed their fire with TW stickers.

    # 25 and final brewery........ Avalanche!

Located off the main drag and 2 blocks from camp. Great youthful vibe and quality suds! And she didn't mind me repacking my hydro pack crap on the bar.

Meetin this fella made me home sick for my little scruffy!

Final stats and the trip home next!
