Seems like we have a few inmates that are amateur radio operators here in Colorado, and the idea has been thrown around to meet up on the air sometime. Nothing formal, just a general talk-in to give everyone a chance to say hello, and give their radio kit a shakedown. I think the Colorado Connection repeaters (www.colcon.org) would give the most coverage across the state, and should be accessible to most. Would a weekend night would work best? If not, please make a suggestion of what works best for you. I know the Colorado Traffic Net meets nightly on the ColCon repeaters from 19:30-19:45, so we'd just have to work around that. Please chime in with any ideas/suggestions and we can go from there. I think ham radios are a greatly underutilized tool for ADVers, whether it's for group communication or an emergency lifeline for solo riders in the backcountry, not to mention it can be a fun hobby for the techies!

I carry one all the time, although don't have a helmet mike. Down here in NM, we have the Megalink, which has amazing coverage, as well as many local repeaters. I agree, ham radio is a great emergency tool. It seems as if this has been mentioned before.

Subscribed just to see what is going on. I have a setup for my Sena but have never really tried it out.

    Net sounds cool.

I carry my HT in my backpack, and have mobile in my truck.

Shoot, I wish I was down there to meet up with you guys. I'll post up in here when I am down your way. I usually carry a radio with me on the bike, and have a mobile in my truck. Do any of you guys usually go to the local HAMfests?

I would be up for a net and live in Longmont.
    mech,
I still need to come and see you two sometime. I try and hit some of the local HF, mainly Barcfest and Larcfest.

Just a reminder for the informal "net" tonight @ 8pm on the Colorado Connection repeaters. There will be no official preamble, net controller or the like, just jump in with your callsign and we'll go from there!

    Thanks again...:D

Luke, I heard you this eve on 146.52, I tried several times to hit you back, but no luck - surprising as your audio was very strong.

I heard my squelch break a couple times but nothing came through. I was up on a hill with a homemade 2-element beam pointed your way so I think maybe my receiver was just overloaded - one of the known faults of these Baofeng radios. Left the whip antenna at home so didn't have the option to switch either... oh well, better luck next time!
