I ran out of time last fall (it's a big place) and couldn't get to two roads near the NW corner of my loop. Both traverse the sides of really big flat spots. One is the 10,000' Uncompahgre Plateau that has a 100 mile long dirt road running across it and the other is Grand Mesa, the largest flat-top mountain in the world.

    Looks good to the east

    not so good west

Sure nuff soon as I got on top the rain starts, and Co/Ut roads can quickly turn to goop so I have to 180.

Making a hasty retreat I'd still left a road or two untaken but they were going to be optional anyway so I'll just have to wait for feedback from whoever takes 'em, I ain't goin back again. Maybe : ) Plus I'm quickly running out of two things, good weather and daylight so eastbound it is (4 hours of construction delays on US50 on the way over didn't help).

The big blue flat thing on the horizon is Grand Mesa, our next stop. All aboard for the night train. :D

    091.JPG

There was more than one option down low so naturally had to check em both out, the choice was easy. The big blue flat thing on the other horizon is Uncompaghre Plateau, where we just were. At least we beat the weather, time on the other hand waits for no one : )

It's about 30 miles from floor to the top, not as the crow flies.

Made it, barely. It's called Land's End, for good reason.

Got out for a ride today with a buddy from out of town. Been raining a lot but we managed to dodge most of it.

Ok you asked for it : ) some of the stuff Rick and I rode yesterday. Powerline across from the campground, Willow Creek up and back, and going around the gulch east of Shavano/Tabequache. they're kinda long unedited/no music so probably boring and no gnar but the scenery's halfway decent (compared to home : )) 1st one I forgot to turn off the camera at the end. :doh

Got out for a late afternoon cruise up and back a few local roads, I'd forgotten about this one from several years ago. Pass Creek, fun stuff and scenic at the top.

I had a chance to peruse Hartman Rocks today, it's disneyland for motorcycles/OHVs. I'd heard about it and seen photos but they didn't quite prepare me for the unique geology/geography and scope of the place. Not on a bike but the old 4x4 Tahoe got me to some places I might not have tried in a 2wd vehicle plus it rained on and off so everything worked out alright. It's one of those places photos just don't do it justice but I gave it a shot, probably got a little carried away. Here's a preview, should have a better connection tomorrow.
