    From RMCAD.EDU:
    Campus History

Our campus has an unusual history: More than 100 years ago, the Jewish Consumptives’ Relief Society founded a safe haven for patients suffering from tuberculosis in a place that was then known as Spivak, Colorado. While there was no known cure for TB at the time, it was widely believed that Colorado’s ample sunshine and crisp mountain air would help to ease the pain of those afflicted.

Over the years, the JCRS campus grew to become the largest free tuberculosis treatment facility in the world. Spanning 148 acres and occupying 34 buildings, the self-sustaining campus had its own post office, a meteorological station, and a working dairy farm. Slowly, though, the city of Lakewood began to encroach upon the once-remote retreat, and by the mid-1950s—as the instance of TB declined and became more treatable—the institution decided to change its mission to cancer research, and it assumed a new name: the American Medical Center.

Built in 1886 and used to be called the Buffalo Inn until 1900. It's for sale.

Hey, 2.5 acres of prime mountain property with water access for under $500,000? If I could afford it I would probably buy it. Biggest downside I see is that with it falling under the National Historic Society you probably can't add any new structures onto the property or alter the outward appearance of the existing structure in anyway that would dampen the historic nature of it. While I do appreciate protecting/preserving history, there gets a point where its ridiculous. I know people that have issues with some land they inherited in Boulder County. Just because its a certain age they aren't allowed to alter the outward appearance in any way that isn't fitting with its time period. they can't even tear down the rickety shed that serves no purpose because its "historical" and must be preserved. I say, if Boulder county wants to keep it as a museum then Boulder county needs to buy it.

I knew the family that lived in it around 79/80. They had shut off most of the house due to costs trying to heat it.
Like most older large houses of that era, very poorly insulated.
We used to play soccer between the house and the creek, and float the river in the summer.
    Good Times!
