We ate at Snack Jack's once. I don't understand the vallet parking only thing. They park your car 20 ft away from where you drop it off, when they are not busy. If you ride a bike there, you just park it yourself, so its not really vallet only. :lol3

Anyone have any input on the Guzzi dealer in Daytona? Red Ember Cycles, I believe.

Just need a rear tire on the Stelvio when I get back down there next month.

    Thank you in advance.

Will be in central Fla. (Mt Dora) from Feb. 19 to Mar. 19. Fairly familiar with Fla. as I have been coming south nearly every year for Bike Week since 1984. Just wondering if there are riders or events in the area that I may not know about during this time frame. I will be doing several Daytona day trips and the Vintage Japanese show at Eustis on the Sat. of Bikeweek. I have ridden most of the roads in the Mt Dora to Ocala area off Hwy 19 and down to Ft Meade area in the past. Any suggestions would be welcomed and appreciated...Thanks ...Dave

I've played around on Google but it's not very helpful. I'm sure someone has done it so I figured this group would be the one to ask.

I'm considering buying a Florida bike, and leaving it in Florida and doing fly and rides from here. How hard is it for a Canadian to insure and plate a Florida bike?

It's not mandatory to have insurance on a motorcycle if it's registered/titled in Florida as far as I know.

If you are bringing an Sxs stop in at Durhamtown plantation on the way thru, its east of Atlanta about 50 miles

Thanks schoals, that looks like our kind of place. Maybe I should swap the Vstrom for a dirt bike,or bring both.

Will be in Orlando middle to end of February. Considering renting a bike and spending 3 days riding before flying home. Looking for ideas but generally the plan was to head south and ride to the keys. Either departing from Orlando or taking a quick flight to Miami and starting there. Would rent through Eaglerider so one way from Orlando south but fly out of Miami is cost prohibitive. Thought about Everglades National Park as well. Basically at this point I'm thinking as long as I get to see the Florida keys and drink a Florida weisse from J Wakefield Brewing I'd be happy enough. Should I just ride from Orlando?

    Greetings,

I’m planning my first trip to Florida for Daytona Bike Week. A friend and I will be flying from San Jose, CA to Orlando on March 8, staying at his place near Kissimmee, and driving over to Daytona Beach daily for the races and people/bike watching. On Sunday we’ll drive halfway or so to Bonita Springs where I’ll be handed off to my ex-wife, I’ll stay with her for a week before flying back to San Jose from Ft. Meyers. Sadly, all travel will be inside four-wheeled vehicles.

I have five questions for riders familiar with southern Florida:

    1. My friend has suggested the hand-off location be either Tampa (he likes the original Hooters restaurant there) or Treasure Island for the view. Is Treasure Island interesting enough to warrant driving around in, and are there any good tavern-type restaurants there? We all like looking at marinas.

    2. Freeways (Freeway 4 from Orlando to Tampa) are good for making time, but otherwise are deadly boring to me. On the map I see Hwy 27; is this a scenic route, and more importantly, is there a tavern-type stop along the highway, maybe in the vicinity of Lake Placid/Lake Istokpoga (a lakeside resort maybe?)? In the past twenty years I’ve spent one afternoon with the ex, about five years ago; I think a tavern-type environment would be best for getting re-acquainted. :) My friend has never been south of Kissimmee.

    3. My ex owns a condo in Bonita Springs; her home is in Minneapolis, MN, she’s a snowbird. She hasn’t strayed beyond a 5 mile radius of Bonita Springs. We plan to explore the side roads along the Gulf from Bonita Springs to as far south along the Gulf as we can go, I’ve got the maps for that trip; any recommended scenic parks and restaurants with a view of the Gulf?

    4. One day we want to drive into the Everglades, we have no knowledge of this area outside of the occasional TV or movie show, and would enjoy seeing nature up close; seeing a live alligator in the wild would be a big plus. We’re in need of a recommended day route (leave early AM from Bonita Springs, leave at dusk from Everglades) suitable for a rental SUV or minivan, including a recommendation for a scenic picnic area, preferably an improved state or private picnic area, and also a tavern; though we can make do with a roadside pull-out. Improved, dry dirt roads are OK.

    5. Another day we could drive over to Lake Okeechobee, it appears to be less than two hours distance. Would this be an interesting destination, any recommendations on what to do/see there?

Thanks in advance for any help here, I’m looking forward to my trip to Florida!
