note that compared to the relief cut into the mounting plate for the calipers, they are not the same. appears that perhaps the brakes I got were from an 1100 and not a 1200??? IMG_20170213_140621.jpg IMG_20170213_140651.jpg

does anyone know if an 1100 rotor will match the bolt holes and width of the rim I have? I'll have to do some experimenting with what I have. I might need a set of different brackets and calipers.

here's a pic so far of what the front end is looking like. at least it's taking shape. IMG_20170213_141126.jpg

Progress this evening. I got GL1100 brake rotors and installed on the 1200 wheel. alignment with the calipers was spot on. got the entire front end dry fit to my C10 parts bike. she's great. now it's time to tear it down and clean it all up.

anyone happen to have some shocks laying around that would work? or know of a source? IMG_20170214_212352 small.jpg IMG_20170214_212406 small.jpg IMG_20170214_212425 small.jpg

yesterday I had a chance to break down the front end. I made my weekly trip to Lowe's and picked up some wire wheels and started cleaning the rust and paint chips off of parts. here's a pic that shows before/after of a few of the pieces. IMG_20170218_111320.jpg

I also measured the shocks. they are 330 mm. I'll have to start shopping for some new ones, plus I need to get a new tire, and also some new brake lines. not sure what I'm going to do yet about the speedo cable. the one from a goldwing and the one from the concours are both too short.

    Milestone!

Still need to rebuild brake calipers, source some brake lines, find speedo cable, paint fender and brackets, source a few more stainless bolts.

THEN....start on the subframe and car. Lots to do....lots to do! IMG_20170222_213211.jpg

You finally got that front swing arm and wheel installed. Congratulations! What a mile stone is this build.

Not installed yet. this is just test fit on my parts bike. I don't want to give up riding the new C10 until I have it all pretty much set to go. that'll be a few more weeks while I keep fitting more onto it.

I'm headed down to A Wing And A Chair in Monroe on Saturday to talk to Doug about a few different things.

I had an 83 GL1100 and the front wheel you have looks exactly like the front wheel off of that year gold wing. The 1100 gold wings had a few differences in front wheels and brakes and some of the brakes where linked. By the time I had gotten around to reading your build I see you figured out the wheel stuff. Looking good.

that's interesting to know. I had not run across that info. was it a particular model in 83? best I could tell there was a complete change from 83 to 84 with the 19 inch wheel becomming 16. I could be completely mis-informed though. in my case, what I bought was listed as coming off an 85 model, but the brake rotors were definitely the older model. the 19 inch 82 version I have would not fit under the front fender, so definitely the 16 was used.

I took a break from the LL front end for a bit so that I could get my current sidecar swingarm upgraded. I pulled the tub and then took the frame off the Nomad. it's at the shop for welding, so getting back to the front end. Next up was brake calipers. took them apart and found that the pistons inside are corroded/rusted, so out they came. I gotta get some new ones, so that stalls that part of the project. Next up is the fender. it's gonna get sanded and painted flat black. that matches the lower portion of the C10. after both of these are done, it's just a matter of adding brake lines, bleeding, and final fitting to the C10. stay tuned.
