Looking to head away next weekend for an overnighter with the idea of Passing through the Condamine River Gorge.

    Is it open?

    Anyone been through recently? :ear

    Cheers; Tom

Don't see why it wouldn't be - hasn't been raining much lately.

    Ran through last Tuesday.
Closed ''rain damaged track ahead local traffic only" said the sign.
Road was in the best condition I've ever seen it.
Fine screenings on all crossings feet stayed dry.

huh. i went through last weekend and it was all in good nick.

there must have been some rain as the deepest crossing was about 18 inches deep. a mate went through the previous week and all 14 crossings were bone dry...

I have never seen it this low ;-[ I think doing the tar twisty's over Queen mary would probably be more exciting at the moment

    ummm B1 I might of been exagerating when i said bone dry but it was bloody close ;-] I took a dirtnewbie out to attempt them and at the end of the road he asked where the legendary creek crossings were ;-{

18/6/2016: So how's the Condamine River Road now.... I guess it will be different after Sunday, does it need much rain to become impassable? How many days does it take for heavy rain to run out of the area?

I will, I can always back out again and go up past Queen Mary Falls.....
The best thing about the Condamine River, is the massive rope swing in the centre of Killarney straight into the water.

Went through a month or so ago - road had being graded and heavy rains the week before didnt seems to have any impact or water levels . Being through a handful of times this year and levels have always being low, dont think there would be an issue unless there is a fair few days of heavy rain within a day or 2 of your ride .

I seriously doubt you'll get through for the next week. That 'dry creek' drains an enormous area behind it, if it rains up there there's a lot of water comes down.
Comes up pretty quick as well, so extra caution if it looks like it's raining upstream. I've been through once in the three times I've looked at it, the time I went through it was deep but clear, the others very muddy and I wasn't prepared to risk it without knowing what the bottom was like, backed out and took the tar.

    http://www.bom.gov.au/fwo/IDQ65396/IDQ65396.541144.plt.shtml

And it does look like it's raining upstream.

I'm not saying it'll be impossible, just that it can be dangerous and needs to be treated with respect.

You will know by the 1st crossing either end if your going through or not. If there up high they only get worse from there( as in wider and deeper)
They normally have signs up across the track if it is closed off. Last time i went through which was a while ago now the track/road was freshly graded and had new blue metal put into the base of the crossings, was almost bowling ball smooth with a few goolies hanging out here and there.

If it has been wet and or is wet when you go and you have time, it is worth stopping at Queen Mary Falls and taking a walk to have a look. Very nice, and a good place to grab a drink and feed across the road:nod
