The first semi-tractor my dad has when he started his excavation business was a late 60's GMC COE with a DD 6V-71. Even has a youngster, I could not get enough of that sound! It wasn't much of a powerhouse, but it did the job and I really loved riding in it!

When I worked at the gold mine after college, we had a 70 Dresser 685E haul trucks, a few of which had huge DD V-16's with quad turbos and blowers. They were great out of the hole, but the Cummins KTTA50Cs would pull harder. Still, the big Detroits sounded exactly like you think one should, only BIG!

IIRC there were a number of trucks in that movie, but if you are thinking of the tow truck then I believe it was an old Cornbinder (International Harvester - now known as Navistar).

You really need to be in a metal box with a 12v71 running 1600 rpm on either side of you. You can't even hear the 15kw generators running in the room when the Detroits are singing their tune.

I can only imagine what that sounds and feels like ! :lol3

One thing I can add to those who have not got personal experience with these great engines. When they are set up correctly, they are one of the smoothest engines out there, By diesel standards they are vibration free ......

This is as close as I get to these great engines :D There is nothing cooler than a turbo feeding a blower :evil

Why would you post a video saying "listen to this truck" and overlap it with shitty music?

Nice - similar to my big truck (3500, std cab, 12' flatbed), but nicer looking.

It would be OK on an old Cadillac, but that is a waste of a good truck.

Open pipes with an occasional gunfire sounding backfire would be an added bonus. Just to make sure everyone looks as you pull up. But do be the gentleman and help the misses climb out while wearing a mink coat.
