27,792 from 81-85* (give or take!)

*200 or so are listed as being made in 86, but they're thought to be left over 85s...

I dig it. Still can't fit my 640A in it, but it seats four with room for more than a sack lunch behind the rear seat...

Had to rebuild the rear of the frame. It was a mix of Swiss cheese and lace...

A drop in the bucket compared to the CJ 5 and CJ7 sales numbers. The CJ-5 and CJ-7's were selling that many or more a year, each.

By 'rare' I should have said, rare sight. Though I wouldn't say they were ever plentiful. Another rare sight is a YJ's in the wild. Yet, they made about 800,000 of them. (I'm talking about on the road not on the trail.)

My cousin brought one back from California. I always wanted one after that. I could've bought nicer Cj-7s for the money, but I like that it's fairly rare, yet parts are still very plentiful since its basically a 7 from the transfer case forward...

The additional room and wheelbase is a big plus for those. I'm always complaining how small my YJ is. I've even thought about stretching it.

There is room for a third row seat or a weekends worth of gear. I've stuffed four people and gear in my old 7 and my old YJ, but it wasn't comfortable, that's for sure. The half hardtop is nice in the winter. You only heat half the area of a 7/YJ. You can find them in pretty good shape still through Scrambler forums.

Very cool. I didn't see any chains on any tires. Pretty amazing that they can get them through some of that terrain.....

I do not concur. It's cool but hardly "close the thread" cool.
