Messy On my way home from the gym. Stopped at a red light, fifth vehicle back from the intersection, 17:00, clear, sunny day. Movement in the peripheral from my right side. SUV is backing down the laneway towards me. I yell. Loudly. Nothing. No time to move and nowhere to go. (Riding the ST11, so quick maneuvers are no go. Had I been on the 690, maybe....) As the SUV hits my right leg, I pound on the back window and not so gracefully 'leap' off the bike as it falls over. SUV stops, then pulls back in the laneway. I walk over to the laneway and ask the driver "Did you not see me?", to which she immediately replies "You pulled into an empty spot behind me!". Well, short story long, she couldn't believe that she'd backed into me and it took the police and a very calm and clear headed witness to convince her otherwise. Damage? Lucky for me, just some shin skin removal. And the bike? A scratch on the l/h tip over pod and a tiny scuff on the tank. Amazing. Moral? (As I had mentioned in casual conversation that very day to a fellow rider) "Assume you're invisible and ride accordingly"
