Yep, I recognize the cross-bar connection...

Nice rear rack! Didja get that from Adv-Spec too?

I did :thumb. It's the prototype. I had a Touratech one on there but after a tour around Europe the alu had marked badly just from an Ortlieb bag resting on it and I wanted to anodize it black. The Adventure-Spec guys said we can do one better than that

After some refinements, I believe so. Probably the new year now as they are also busy honouring their crash bar shipments

I've got a skid plate order in with Adventure Spec. After seeing the shot of the prototype rack I asked them about production. Chris said on Dec. 2 that he was hoping to be ready to roll with them in a couple weeks.

But, obviously those guys are quite busy at the moment, so you may be right with your estimate for the New Year.

I haven't seen anything official yet, but I do know that at least one tank manufacturer is considering them for their GS800 option.

Additionally, TT did come out with forward tanks for the 650 single (Striking Viking had them for his RTW trip), so at the least, I'd expect to see similar for our bikes at some point (not that that option will likely be anywhere near affordable..).

    My Adv-Spec bars came today.
They look great except for some powder coat issues.
Some is caused by parts rubbing during shipping.
A couple of spots where it looks like the powder coat just
    didn't stick.
Most of the areas won't show once the bars are mounted.
I hope to get them mounted tomorrow.

Wonky, if you're reading this, wrap the parts individually.

Those DHL guys are not gentle, apparently.

Post pictures when you've got them mounted! Mine are arriving today. I need to go buy a torque wrench and stuf...

Got my Adv-Spec bars on. Pretty straight-forward install,
but you will have to take off your Adv-Spec bashplate if'n
ya got it first and put it on. (unless you have fingers like E.T.)

    Wanna see some pics?
Of course we all love pics.

Ladies, feel free to PM me.

This might be a little close with boots on (haven't tried yet)
Maybe a brake lever extension thingy in my future.

Little chip in the powdercoat. Not a big deal. Maybe I can borrow some black nail polish from RaySavant. (see JoMomma)

And nighty-night. (although I'll probably go for a ride after dinner)

    Thanks for indulging me.

Excellent, John. I've got mine on too but am missing a 'bit' so can't get them tightened right. As a consequence, I haven't put the bashplate back (hence, no pics yet).

Shame about the 'scuffs'. Put some dirt on it to cover them up! :thumb

I place an order with adv-spec last night. They ship with DHL? Bummer. At least now I know I need to call about 2 weeks after the package ships to make sure DHL in LA attempts to clear it through customs before returning it to sender.

Actually, speed was not a problem at all.
Only 2 days from UK to my door.
You can track it all the way through the link on Adv-Spec sight.

A shop in SC is building prototype crash bars and skid plate for the F800GS. Should be available in early 2009.

I hope you cover those things up when you go riding. :evil

Thanks for sharing! I just got mine yesterday and I think I am going to put mine on after the 600 mile service. I can't wait!

For sure, no riding in shorts and flip-flops for me.
Lots of bikes and scooters down here, and most ride that way.
Dated a girl who worked in the ER here in Key West and she told
me about how many road rash and other scooter wreck injuries they see.
I think she said it was the majority of patients.

BTW, no PMs yet. What's up, girls?

I just installed my ADV Spec crash bars, skid plate and hand guards (Barkbusters) last night. The entire install took only about 1 hour if you organize your parts and tools. VERY easy and straight forward instructions and the quality is top notch! I'm very impressed with the skid plate, so far I haven't seen one that offers as much coverage in a one piece plate.

    WARNING!!!
Be sure to use a torque wrench when installing the bolts into the engine block as the first bolt I attempted to "feel" and ended up stripping the engine block threads! After that, I used the torque wrench and had no problems.

D'oh! Sorry to hear that, springfish. I did that a few times on a Royal Enfield a while back. Their engine blocks are made out of cheddar cheese! So I got to learn all about heli-coil inserts while I owned that bike. :lol3

Springfish: I'm in White Salmon. Send me a PM if it's ok for me to come over to check out your ADV Spec goodies.

    Thanks
