Beautiful country! Beautiful pics!
Thank you both for sharing vieuws & ride reports...
Thanks for the nice report and beautiful pictures from Karlovac. You are lucky to ride with your father.
When I'm done writing the report about our ride in the area I'll set a link to this thread.
I'm looking forward to meet again and ride in your beautiful country.
PS: Nice bike!
Best Regards to Linza and your father.
Looks good.... and good see you sharing your ride with Veteran
very good RR . good promotion for CROATIA
Hello Damir, thx for sharing your memories with us.
Waiting you here this summer
How's the 800 treating you?
Very nice gravel roads! Looks like paradise for dual sporting!
Greetings from the centre of Canada. I really enjoyed your RR. I must visit your country...again.
I was in Croatia in 1992 and 1994 did just over a year and got to experience the sad civil war first hand. The Bulcan's had in those day's an interesting feel to it...You see I was part of UNPROFOR but, that's in the past for me.
I got to party hard in Split and Macarska (unsure of actual spelling). Our leave centre (a hotel) was next door to one of the Croatian army veterans hosptials and seeing those busted up soldiers still holding their chins up with pride was very cool.
When you come from the interior to the coast it's is a transformation in climate, cars, & roads. I loved the happy moments we had and there were a few. Your pictures tell of the beauty and rich history that neck of the woods for all.
I recall there were camping areas all over the place in the interior, a little run down at that time (they had more pressing matters to attend to) but thought..someday I'd come back one day and stay at a few.
Thank you for rekindleing my disire to return.
PS: Do they still drive those rototiller-wagons with no lights and long handlebars. We almost took out a few on those back country roads in our APC's..You have to post a picture or two of those machines.
Crazy times.. Cheers
Thank you all!
2 the Venturer: Looking forward to meet you.
2 enduro0125: Hi Dan, I really like the 800, even my dad after ½ of century on boxers said that the bike is cool.
2 Morinite: It is Makarska. This is really emotional post for me (and I suppose lot of people from Cro). I hope that we made a lot of progress since 90’s. You should come back to check it out.
Maybe you will find this thread interesting:
I dont have any immediate plans for Europe in the next year or two but I would definitely revisit <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:country-region w:st="on">Croatia</st1:country-region>, <st1:City w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Split</st1lace></st1:City>, and other places too when I do return. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Your country has grown significantly since the war. You all should be very proud of yourselves. <o></o>
I still have a handful of Kunas in my souvenir box (we soldiers called it crunchy bucks). Do you still use Kuna or have you gone to the Euro Dollar? <o></o>
When I head over Ill bring a bottle of the best imported Slivovitz we have here in Canada. You provide the Pevo. <o></o>
Another short ride, same general area as last time.
Taking nap at the side of the road. I made comment about dogs being polite and moment after that big one come running towards us.
Across Korana river, same river which forms famous Plitvice Lakes.
Bosnia is across the Glina river.
Last set of pictures was taken on Petrova Gora mountain.
Back to the garage.
Route, 140 km, 100 km on gravel. :)
I have been in Karlovac too. The hospital :eek1. After I tried to demolish a car with my body and broke my leg. My friends made the photo's
Another good installment of Damir's Adventures
no TKCs yet?
nice pics as always Damir - been at this mountain some years ago, need to re-visit the area in the next time.
Was first introduced to Croatia last year in Zagreb and found it beautiful; visited Porec in the fall and found it beautiful. I want to see Plitvice (sp) lakes this summer and know it will be beautiful.
Thank you for the reminder of your beautiful country.
This weekend destination was Lika area http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lika, more precisely Velebit Mountain http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velebit. Our goal was to ride Veliki Alan road on northern part of the mountain.
We hit the road early and after 100 km on the main road it was time to turn to smaller secondary roads. It is surprising that some of the forest roads are sealed, but they were fun.
Krasno is one of the biggest villages on Velebit.
Towards Veliki Alan.
There are few roads to the peak, first we tried to do detour trough the woods, but there were too much snow on the ground.
Natural fridge... :)
After few km, we reached main road, to our big suprise it was plowed. :)
After the top we proceeded for few km just to snap few pictures of Adriatic before turning back. Proceeding to the coast would take us to far from home and we still had some gravel roads on Velebit to ride.
Monument is dedicated to the people from Northen Adriatic islands that used these trails to join the partisans during WWII.
Last gravel section was most interesting, there was still snow on the ground.
Back on the asphalt, there was around two more hours of riding before reaching Karlovac.
Thanks for the continued updates! Great backroads you have there!
It is terrific to see you and your father out riding together.
Cherish these days.
Svaka čast Pudla na slikama i prezentaciji domovine!
Great job Pudla!
