Felt the need to follow up. My brother and I spent two days exploring Croom. Day 1, we rode all the lettered trails and did a little exploring. Day 2, we did a ton of exploring and very little of the lettered trails. I can say I do see why people like it so much. It is very sandy and a lot of it is whooped out, BUT there is plenty of riding that is not. We were fortunate enough on day 2 to hook up with some guys that are regulars and let us follow them for a bit. Until they were "warmed up" and were going to "pick up the pace a bit". 15 seconds later, we never saw them again until the parking lot!

Come on bro.... Is nothing sacred? I do appreciate you rounding up to 15 seconds though. Reenactment?.. Let's go. Holy shit, where did they go??

Yeah. I kind of thought the 15 seconds WAS an embellishment!

I drove my car to Croom today to check it out. Went in the rental bike shop and asked the guys about riding my 690 there and they said it was not a good plan. Told me to checkout Richloam and bring my 2 stroke next time I came down. Any of you guys ridden Richloam? I am out of Crystal River and looking to meet some local dual sport / ADV riders.

I rode some of Richloam. To me, not a good idea now during hunting season. I must have seen a dozen trucks with bow hunters hanging out. That was in just a couple miles. On a 690, go to Ocala and ride some trails and the clay roads. Others will certainly know more than me.

Thought I would revive the thread to see if anyone is heading to Croom this weekend. Never been and figured I would take a peek and play some. I tried Ocala a few weekends ago and quickly realized it was hunting season

Just looking to get some riding in.

I'm planning on hitting Croom on Sunday. Was there for the first time last weekend but the fuel pump on my WR took a dump 45 minutes in :baldy

It does not sound like Croom is OBESE bike friendly. :dirtdog

Planning on making the trip after woodsman cup on Saturday...what all do I need before I plop down $80 for the damned annual pass? Figure I'll make 2-3 more excursions over next 3-4 months.

I ended up riding out North in the Withlahoochee forest Sunday for the first time. Ran into a local out there riding a KLR. He ended up showing me a few places. Ran into a lot of sugar sand and red dirt/clay but nothing bad. I noticed a lot of "side trails" I would like to try my hand on whenever I make another visit. Nice area to just roam around and play on any size bike.

I'd like to go check these areas out since I only live about 10 minutes from Croom, and 5 minutes from Richloam. I've hunted in Richloam and the roads are definitely sugar sand. I wonder if there is someplace better suited for a big fat pig of a bike like mine, a Triumph Tiger 1200?

ONF improved roads and other maintained dirt roads. Everything else in FL is sand. If it's a trail or double track it Will have sand. You're going to want to learn to ride in it.

There are plenty of places to ride your 1200 in your area. I put a lil video together of my ride a few weeks ago in Withlahoochie. Nice riding our there where you can get into some easy stuff or tough stuff...relatively speaking. I'm looking forward to riding more out there.

Like Ginger B said.... learning how to ride in it just opened up more options for places I can now ride.

Y'all have convinced me! I'm gonna go up and do some riding around Richloam. No better way to learn than to do it I guess!
