Here's a report post last weekends storm.

Sierra from Mount Whitney looking North

That's Cerro Gordo in the middle of the peak.

Saline Valley Rd (South Pass looking North East)

Teakettle Junction to the race track looks snow free.

    No snow on Lippencott either.

Nuddie camp has a few people that got stranded in the storm. I called in a car about a 1/4 of the way up the Valley. I couldn't tell if they were just waving or needed help.

    Heading towards Steele Pass.

    Steele Pass to the dunes

    Eureka Dunes looking South

North Pass into Saline, looking North.

The entire valley from the North.

The "Dry" Lake and the Inyos

North Rd to the Warm Springs (south rd looks pretty wet)

    South Pass (looking South)

    Looking into Panamint Valley

Panamint Springs in the calm before the Noob Ralley

    Who can name this valley?

Mengal Pass doesn't look so bad from here.... also, no snow between Death and Goler Wash.

For this weekend, I would say Racetrack, Ubehebe Crater and Mengal Pass are good. There are tracks driving in the South Pass to Saline Valley, but on a bike it would be interesting.

    Cheers

Yup. There were some truck tracks on the Saline Valley RD, but Hunter Mountain looked like it had a few feet on it and no tracks. I'm not going to call it impassable because I know what some of the riders on this site are capable of, but you may need a snow plow.

As for the Valley, when I called in the bue car I saw on the road, Furnace Creek had already tried to help out some others and were adding the light blue car to the list of people needing help out of the Valley.

I did note some washed out areas on the Valley floor, so when the passes do clear, the road could go from 70 mph wash board to a dried out river bed pretty quick. Here's another pic of South Pass. For the Nor Cal BMW Rally this weekend, there should be plenty of good riding open, and as fast as snow melts in the desert, even Saline could clear up if the weather forecast changes.

Now that's just the snow. It's hard to tell wash outs and ruts from the air.

For instance, this from the air....

Is this on the ground, but at least it gives you an idea of how the roads are.

Great place! By the way Russel and Geologist cabin were vacant. If you hurry now you can get it all to your self :D

I'll be out of town next week... have to go choke on some smog in the Central Valley until Friday.

The NPS link was calling South Pass and North Pass closed prior to last weeks storm due to snow. There wasn't even a speck on it prior to last weekends storm. When they close Titus, it's pretty much closed, but on Saline, they may put out a road closed sign, but I don't think they enforce it unless it's really bad. If you know what you're doing, don't walk on the race track when it's wet, and can make it back in one piece without needing rescue I think Teakettle junction and Lippencott would be ok, if Lippencott isn't washed out that is (dice roll).

I had ice on my windshield this morning, and they are forecasting snow in Ridgecrest from this next storm. If that happens, all bets are off. :1drink

I love getting a birds-eye view of places I am very familiar with on the ground.
Gives it all a whole new perspective.
