Wow, been a while since I updated this... My entry in the rat rod build off was the Army bRat. I wasn't really impressed with how it turned out but it was fun learning how to make instant rust.... more to follow on that later.

For now, here's another set of customs- a Christmas themed build off. I didn't enter this one, knew I wasn't going to have the time. Some pretty sweet cars though.

In the meantime, here's the Army bRat build. Started off as this:

    Chop chop.

Find some nice wheels for it.

Wanted to go for the rusty rat rod look, so I painted it with some "red" primer first.

Then the flat black with some scuffing.

Looked okay, but I had a different idea.

    How about army green instead?

Here's where the tricky part comes in. REAL rust. Mix up some hydrogen peroxide, water, and salt, glue some steel filings on in key locations, and paint the solution on.

Lower left is steel wool, upper right is steel filings from a band saw.

Here you can see the filings glued on.

After a bit of painting / rusting.

And you've already seen the finished product.

In all honesty, I think this is the ugliest custom in the history of man. It just sucks. :dunno

I am really happy with the rusting effect though and I'm sure I will use it again in the future.

Stay tuned for a couple of other builds- There is a BIKE buildoff in progress right now so I should have several custom built Hot Wheels bikes for you guys to vote for in about a week!

Well, I have a new custom built, was all set to enter it in the build off, and blam. Disqualified... My sister in law thought it would be cute to hack my facebook and post my "polly pocket" bike. All submissions to the build off must be anonymous so unfortunately I don't get to participate. In all fairness, I sorta deserved it for hacking her facebook and posting something about her being pregnant. :deal

Lets see what we can do with all of my wifes jewelry stuff.

I've already posted a complete picture elsewhere, but if you havent seen it see if you can figure out what this is going to be.

Frame was bent out of little bits of wire that are supposed to be made into earings. The rims were prerolled just like they are there.

    See that lump of aluminum?

    Thats the gas tank.

    Forks done. Look familiar?

Engine was made from the bottom of a 1/4" bolt and the tops cut from two spark plugs.

    Test fitting.

Painting was a real pain in the hiney.

Starting to come together. Used this fancy wire from Walmart to add some detail.

Took me 4 tries to get the pedals right, 3 tries to get the mag and plug wires right, and lots of tries for various other bits...

Made some custom decals with water transfer paper. Took several tries on regular paper to get the size and curve right but I think they turned out okay.

    Voila! Done.
