Acutally, that was Wheedle on the DRZ.

On up North of that where there are the really big ruts, there was a car and on older truck stuck in the ruts. :rofl It was pretty funny to come and see it.

The ruts were extremely deep this time with the recent rain, so crossing them was interesting.

BTW, did you ever find that trail near the cemetary I told you about? We hit that trail too and it has become one of my favorites in that area. Man, talk about another loosing your bike in the water. There are a couple woops that normally are damp or muddy, but this time, they were filled with 2-3 ft of water. It's another great place to watch people's faces as they pop over and realize they are about to go swimming. :lol3 There is also a creek crossing on that trail.

I never did find that trail, no. I think I know the one you are talking about. One day you will have to show me. Sounds like my cup of tea.

Right now I am into exploring Warwoman a little more. All the stuff between my place and Suches is fun and all, but by the time I get anywhere new, it is already dark and time to head home. Last weekend me and Lucky trucked the bikes to Clayton and started there, where we met Dags on his KLR.

I did find the Suches firetower, and that place is AWESOME. The trail to get there was fun, too. I think I wheelied up half of it.

Hey Flux and Blue, my Uncle is a Forest Ranger in Clayton and lives off of Warwoman. I'm sure that he could provide some great, detailed maps of the area.

I've also done some mountain biking up there - there is some really great singletrack and FS roads that I'd love to explore w/out having to pedal up them!!

Look forward to getting together for a ride sometime soon.:ear

H'wood! (I always want to say "Hogan" after that for some damned reason) How ya been, mang? Dude, if there is a way to get some detailed maps of Warwoman, I would love to get ahold of them. Literally half of what we rode last time wasn't marked on the map I have. That would be sweet. :thumb

Man, that would awesome. I'd like to get my hands on some nice FS maps to compare and plan routes on my GPS.

Flux, I know what you mean about the Suches area. I know there is a lot more out there, but I keep taking people on what I know. I'm ready to go explore some new areas. I definitely want to get up there near Warwoman and ride that area.

Noooooo dude! I thought you meant you couldn't get down the road because of water (which I reallly didn't understand). I don't know if you can get a bike across the river down there or not.

Where were you guys thinking of crossing the river? Sandy Ford or somewhere else? I don't know of too many places on the Chatooga where I would think you could cross unless the water is really low like during the summer months. It be fun trying until you swamped your bike! :1drink

BTW, seeing how the Chatooga is "Wild & Scenic" I would think it's not really "legal" to cross it with a motor vehicle. :eek1

That's right, they would probably have your head for that, and for riding anything other than a FS road in the Wild and Scenic River corridor.

The road stops on one side of the river and starts again on the other so I reckon your safe to ride across legally if the water is low enough.

Just spoke to a local who lives up there. It is illegal to get within 1/4 of a mile of the river with a motorized vehicle. They tolerate it on one road because the locals use it for river access.

The trail Dan is talking about is exactly like the trail leading down from the bald you took us to on FBA2...Flux's big Adventure 2.

It's basically a tunnel of Rhododendron...

Roger that. That's what pissed off the locals so much after the movie "Deliverance". All the tourists and rafters came in and all of a sudden, folks who had accessed the river for years were cut off.

When I was a kid we would drive our jeeps/trucks right down to the waters edge at Woodall Shoals and camp. Good ole days.....

Hey Flux glad your back. Thats exactly what I was thinking GaM. I have been to the chatooga many times during the summer and waded across but never thought of crossing it anywhere I've been too. Talk about going for a swim with you bike. It would have to be the only choice. I sure would like to be there if somebody wants to give it a try though.:lol3
