A few more pics for your viewing pleasure while I go buy a case of JB Weld. ...
Wow that has damage everywhere. You need a wrecked bike or an insurance sale. Or do what Suzy told you to...
Boys and Girls can you say FUBAR! :eek1
I got a plan.
Oh yeah, about the chicks.....nothing to report.
BigDon brings em in!!
Cash, I have been working on a dirt route that circles the Smokey Mountains Natinal Park. You rmap shows a bigger plan. Go for it!!
Thanks to my buddies from TX for their encouragement and assistance. I got a bike!!
I hope to find another motor for the DR650. I am thinking long term so I want something in good condition with a known history. Send me a note if you have a lead on a motor.
A green DRZ! Awesome! Looks to be in good shape with some great farkles. Congrats!
Are you sure Don hasn't owned it sometime in the past? That big ass tank is a dead giveaway
That's not a big tank !
This is a BIG TANK
Great ride report!
That route goes right past my house. We're about 12 miles west of Lexington, Virginia, in that triangle where I-64 heads west from I-81. Give a shout if you come by here and I'll try to hook up with you for a while!
Sorry about your motor - do you know what started the destruction? The gear side of the big end of the connecting rod in the photo above looks like it got very hot at some point, maybe a toasted bearing? I had a DR650 of the same vintage and rode the piss out of it without ever a single hiccup, seemed completely bomb-proof to me. I haven't heard of too many grenade experiences with the DR650.
I've got a Yamaha WR250R now that I hear very good things about (only ridden it about 500 miles so far), I've had two XT225s that were indestructible, and I've owned a number of Kawasakis that were just great too. Hope you enjoy the KLX! I think it's great that the little TW200 saved your trip!
Yup that's a biggun! Safari must love you :)
I looked at the parts as I pulled them apart. I didn't see anything that looked like it had been hot or showed poor wear patterns. I think you are seeing the oil film and/or lighting effects from the camera.
On the other hand I did not baby this bike. There were several hi speed pavement runs (Texas 170, CO 149) that included a lot of full throttle riding. My crankcase filled up with gas a couple of times, but I never ran the bike like that. I did a number of downhill coasting runs - what passes for racing when you are near 60. Some people say that extended coasting is bad for the bike. All of this is fun to talk about, but it is seems obvious to me that third gear came apart, and caused the rest of the damage.
Third gear grenade is one of the items mentioned on DR sites. Some say it is a myth....I'd say you have evidence.
Two more tanks and I get on the Christmas Card list!
I like big tanks and I can not lie ! :eek1
Dad went to the flea market and got me a t-shirt.
Cash, We rode N. Ga last NOV. It was a pre-ride for the MTF Smokey Mountain Rough Road Ride scheduled for this SEP. I love those N GA dirt roads. They seem not to see a road scraper as often as the dirt roads in NC and TN.
Looks awesome! I'm definitely in for September.
Found an engine - there is light at the end of the tunnel.
