    We've all seen that multiple times now - I wonder if Toby has seen it once yet ?

    It's finally over!

    Thank you everyone, every year the F5 party gets better :clap and better F5 participants make the Dakar even more addictive.

    No use mentioning names, I'd forget someone and that would be unfair, as the greatness of this thread is exactly its universality.

    Thanks again and... see you guys at the Bivouac! :thumb

    That was pretty awesome. :lol3

    Missed the coverage yesterday b/c I was at work. Apparently there was a helicopter crew who talked about filming that dune shot with Toby -- anyone seen a snippet of that? (the talk with the crew, not the shot itself) :ear

    Some interesting stats there but I think skewed by riders ability. by that I am asying that lesser skilled riders may sign up to get a KTM package of some kind. These people then didnt have the skill to make the distance.

    those with another brand had possible been riding longer and were more knowledgeable about their steed to be able to maintain it etc and the bike's / their ability

    Looking at the 2012 Dakar withdrawals/finishes I thought the following stats may be of some interest.
    178 bikes started stage 1 of which 97 finished (54%) resulting in 81 withdrawals (4 still to be confirmed) for whatever reason (46%). By make it looks like;

    APRILIA - 1 finished from 4 (25%)
    BETA – 0 from 6 (0%)
    BMW - 1 from 3 (33%)
    GAS – GAS – 1 from 2 (50%)
    HONDA - 13 from 23 (57%)
    HUSABERG - 3 from 5 (60%)
    HUSQVARNA - 7 from 10 (70%)
    JINCHENG – 2 from 2 (100%)
    KAWASAKI – 4 from 5 (80%)
    KTM – 38 from 71 (54%)
    RIEJU – 1 from 2 (50%)
    SHERCO – 2 from 4 (50%)
    TM – 0 from 1 (0%)
    YAMAHA – 24 from 40 (60%)
    Grand Total – 97 from 178 (54%)

    Looking at the last 6 Dakar(2006, 2007, 2009,2010,2011 & 2012) 1169 bikes started stage 1 of which 609 have finished (52%) resulting in 560 withdrawals (4 still to be confirmed in 2012) for whatever reason (48%). By make it looks like;

    APRILIA - 11 from 23 (48%)
    BETA - 3 from 18 (17%)
    BMW - 14 from 36 (39%)
    HONDA - 89 from 145 (61%)
    Other - 7 from 21 (33%)
    HUSABERG - 3 from 9 (33%)
    HUSQVARNA - 9 from 14 (64%)
    JINCHENG - 6 from 7 (86%)
    KAWASAKI - 5 from 11 (45%)
    KTM - 304 from 578 (53%)
    SHERCO - 7 from 16 (44%)
    SUZUKI - 3 from 11 (27%)
    YAMAHA - 148 from 280 (53%)
    Grand Total - 609 from 1169 (52%)

    Again looking at the last 6 Dakar(2006, 2007, 2009,2010,2011 & 2012) completions looks like;
    2012 - 97 from 178 (54%)
    2011 - 93 from 170 (55%)
    2010 - 88 from 151 (58%)
    2009 - 113 from 217 (52%)
    2007 - 128 from 234 (55%)
    2006 - 90 from 219 (41%)
    Total - 609 from 1169 (52%)
