Still amazed at these people riding fuel laden bikes across the sand and making it look easy. I have tried several times to ride a motocross bike in the sand and failed miserably.

All that and these bikes are the "Small" ones compared to what they used to run.

What a great display of skill :clap

Even at the leaders pace he has several hours left. Multiple that by X due to fatigue, dark, rider ability, etc and well....gonna be tight to get to the bivouac before tomorrows riders begin to leave. At some point he'll have to sign off with sweep truck. I cannot fathom riding that terrain at night. IF, and I hope he does, make it in there won't be much time to work on the bike, eat, sleep, etc.....the snowball battle would begin.

Come on Don, beat the odds :pynd

Does anyone know if Andrew Scott is still residing in Canada? I believe he was living in Toronto prior to his previous Dakar attempt (2010?)

In years gone by, Glen Hoffmann has stated that Safari bikes are built from OEM parts, but not necessarily current model parts. For example, I seem to recall the 08 bikes were built with pistons from the 05 model. I don't have any specifics on the Dakar bikes, though you would assume what has served them well for reliability in the past would carry over to the Dakar bikes.

Not sure if we'll hear from Pyn tonight, will probably depend on how his prep is going (and phone reception). If I hear from him, you all will, too.

Hoping to arrange another interactive interview before the end of the week.

Live from the Dakar bivouac, having an awesome dinner with the spanish team Pedrega that is assisting 3 venezuelan riders and 1 colombian. They are helping me so much and i want to thank them all for letting me be part of the team!!! Pedrega brought a nice good ham so here we are, the bivouac is really magic!!! Ps. I want to thank also Simon Pavey for giving me some of his used (they are practically new) mousse for the next stages!!!
