This is a bad year for me to try and follow the Dakar. I'm keeping up with this thread the best I can.

But I thought I'd chime in quickly with a quote of something someone wrote on the youtube video that is a compiliation of spectator videos on Robby Gordon from last year's Dakar.

"Es el depredador del desierto, su auto está diseñado para saltar y destrozarlo todo incluyendo a las Buggys y Mini drivers que son un estorbo a su paso. Es el díos del desierto."

    Google Translation:

"Is desert predator, his car is designed to jump and smash everything including the Buggys and Mini drivers that are a hindrance in their path. He is the god of the desert."

(Actually, have you ever seen a better sounding online translation?)

Yep, put it together myself last year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3v8cUD2K9w

    *pats self on back*

It was easy to do, I only had to be willing to waste a ton of time looking through extremely boring spectator videos looking for an exciting few seconds.

"Bad news. The organization has decided to reinstate the 21 minute penalty. An embarrassment (that) gives me the urge to pick up (pack, more probably) my suitcases."

You owe me a beer. :deal Mexican.

That's better news about Don. Amazing that he's still going. I have this image in my mind of him limping his bike and himself through the desert, with the medical team following like vultures.

Here's one for rulebook ric678 and the other experts: Assuming he can keep riding, is there a cutoff time by which he has to make the ASS or the bivouac before being disqualified? Or, is he in it until he misses his start time for tomorrow's stage (and by how much can he miss the start time before he's disqualified)?

I spoke with Chavo this evening. After starting 150th, he said the track was destroyed. So much dust and fesh fesh and that every fesh fesh section was just a disaster to get through after 149 bikes before him. But he is in good spirits and pledges to "keep going like the energizer bunny." :rofl

He's such a good guy and so badly wants a good result while promoting Bolivia for hopeful inclusion next year.

I didn't see anyone answer you on this but yes, Helder ran out of fuel yesterday and had to wait for Pizzolito to catch up to swap some of the good stuff.

Chavo is an excellent guy, and he has the personal support of the president of Bolivia.

    THanks for the update, Doyle!
