Yeah, poisoned well.
Maybe this was their way of replacing you without having to pay out, though.
well how about just a fancy graphic showing the bikes/cars/trucks progress along a linear representation of the special?
or even just an uprated tracker showing, accurately, how far from the next waypoint the riders are? that would certainly beat the current nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, 3 waypoint dump of info process we seem to be getting now...
seems to me like the ASOles haven't updated the way they present the Dakar for the last 4 years or so
That would be great. Wouldn't show us people completely screwing up the navigation (like we saw in Morocco), but way better than the current system.
Someone tapped into a feed from Tunisia perhaps that gave the iriTrack position in 30 second updates if I am not mistaken, incredibly accurate. As much as I would like it for tracking, every team that could afford it would have teams of virtual spotters telling of every bump, erg, dune, and men with mustaches. I would be great to see but vastly abused. The vagueness of the ASO system is completely intentional. They have the accuracy we want, I've seen it in screenshots and video, they just don't broadcast it.
Thought I'd better pop in and say that or people would think I'm actually "in" the Dakar this year. My F5hose contribution has to be very light this year for multiple reasons ... but I'll make up for it in the 2014 Dakar. In the mean time I have to check in here occasionally for an update and be happy with that.
Thanks to everyone that does contribute.
did we get/hear the reasoning behind the different routes for cars and bikes today?
Great to see that picture from Tuareg Rally, with Chris Porter(left) from Mojo Suspension, that was a wild day,we already had one rider, our friend Mick Tompkinson,on the floor with a broken vertebrae, when Kent face planted over the dune, and when he came to,all he could say was"my name is Kent,I am a blacksmith"!!!!
He was convinced he was OK to ride, and kept trying to get back on his bike,so we took his boots off and put them at the top of the next dune!!That slowed him up,riding barefoot with rally pegs is not an option........
Back to the live tracking, when I was talking to technical people at Heroes Legend scrutineering, the problem with live sattelite tracking is that the competitors could phone back to base(or even view it through their own 3g phone)to get their position off-course,and then direct themselves back on course.
IMHO the whole point of a rally is the fact that it is the riders/drivers responsibility to stay on course, and when they are off course,to work out how to get back on using the navigational aids on the bike/car.Not to phone up and get directed in like some Sega video game.
in the pre-event coverage,(how to build a road book or something) Mr racing director thought it would be good.
0700 race time, and one post in the last half hour.
Did everyone get raptured and I got left behind?
All your 450RR's were mine there, for a minute...
which is why something simple that just showed live distance from/to waypoints would be good - not much help for the riders but you would be able to see who was stopped, who was riding with who etc
Oh to get up and ride my bike again, how would it be!
in the TV coverage threat for those that have/want XBMC and navi-X
this is a hell off a job, bike---------bike>.

Quite possibly, it had crossed my mind - oh well, their loss

Are the bikes leaving the bivvy now?
Should be just about time for Thunderbirds to launch.
