FYI - keeping an eye on France 2 now as well. Scheduled to start at 00:55 (UTC/GMT)... We'll see how that holds up.

And so ends my first completed Dakar on the F5irehose... I've been brought up on rallying since birth (hence the username) and remember seeing Dakar footage as a child but now I'm older I can appreciate what these guys have to go through on rally raids especially the Dakar

Last year I tried to keep up on the F5irehose but Le Camion Balai got me within a couple of days! :cry

This year I was determined to be there in the beginning and read every single post in this epic thread and I've managed it.

I'm fucked, I need sleep, the missus is pissed (but she told me at Christmas she's gonna leave me after 8 years anyway so bollox to her) and when I go back to work the big boss man is gonna spew when he realises that all I've done in the last 2 weeks is F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 :D I probably owe them a new keyboard I figure

    As for the race itself:

Despres? True Alien - sits back analysing for a bit, has to square away some mechanical issues on his own then gives folk a lesson in navigation and leading from the front

Chaleco - one for the future along with that lad Kurt Casselli - hes got mega pace and when hes got the nav side of things boxed hes a Dakar winner for sure

David Casteu - new hero for me - never known a guy smile as much as him - proper role model for young racers

Pyn/Pavey/Boundsy/Watt/Tim/Manuel/Luis and theRace to Recovery blokes - humbling. Well done chaps - infact well done to everyone who finished

    RIP Thomas Bourgin :cry

    And as for Team F5:

What a great bunch of folks! Very little in the way of nastiness and arguing all thrugh the race. Some great and knowledgeable folks openly sharing their past experiences and answering dumb ass questions from me mostly

Misc's dakar tracker is epic and the bloke is a legend for giving up his time and putting so much effort in to it

RallyRadio - ditto - amazing to get the calls coming in and to experience the riders feelings

    What I learnt:

those stupid hats have a name - and a flatbiller is a derogatory term
    i hate darts and snooker
    Brodo's maths is shit :D
everything that happens in the Dakar can have a gate at the end of it
Carlton Kirby is a good bloke but still gets muddled
France TV is greater than any other TV for 2 weeks in january
    Eurosport blows
Maray is a headfuck when they get into full flow
I need an ipad for next years event

Laters guys - its been a pleasure, I'm hooked

Not long to go now :freaky

BlueBull we need you in the Dakar 2014!
TSC, to be in charge of the official news, hopefully FROM the bivouac this time!
F5Bull competitors are definitely fast typers ;)

It was great watching the car race coming closer to an even playing field, congrats to Nasser and Carlos for going for it against all odds, that's a win in itself on how well they and the car did.
Robert, it started with US vs. THEM and ended YOU vs. YOU, slow down, focus on yourself and you'll go faster.
Peterhansel, much to be learned from him.
Cyril, the new wave is coming fast, especially with shorter special stages and less open navigation.
    Marc, we missed you.
    Chaleco, felicitationes.

But a special CONGRATULATIONS must be said to all the privateers we don't hear about, racing through chewed up terrains and dealing with incoming cars and trucks, some more respectul than others when passing and swinging the back of the vehicles in rocky sections.

    See you in 2014 :wave

Awesome that South African Darryl Curtis towed Casselli to the finish. South Africa: Never leave a man behind. :clap :clap :clap

To Luis, Lyndon Craig, Darryl, Brett, Johnny, Riaan van Niekerk who won the rookies, to all the guys, congratulations again.

Thanks again team F5, its been real and its been awesome to follow with you all.

This year was tough for me, lying about with a shatterred tibia. Ive been quite depressed, knowing that its going to be months before I am healed ,and then more operations to come after that. It pretty much does trashes any chance of entering the Dakar in 2014 - I need a cople more rallies under the belt 1st. So it looks like its going to be a 5 year plan for me afterall, and right now I need to find some motivation, because honestly, I'm a little nervous to get back onto a bike again after this injury. Im sure that will change soon enough.

Rally on guys and ride safely!!! :thumb

    Weird - try this: http://chunk-output-1.live.tv-radio.com/canalplus/android/index/1040/02.m3u8

Make sure that there are no trailing spaces or anything like that added to it. You could also try to open it manually by copying the URL and chosing "Open Network" in the File menu of VLC.

Now that the bulk of the excitement has passed, I'd like to mention that the female author they were interviewing on France 2, (before today's Bivouac) named Pamela Druckerman, among many things, actually not only gave but arranged, interviewed, and selected the third participant in a ménage à trois that she GAVE her husband for his 40th birthday. I'm serious! Look it up.
