I agree - but for the ASO, the Dakar image 'thrives' on the drama - and anything they can do to spice up what is usually a formality stage...

What I can't work out, is whether this is an advantage to Despres, a disadvantage, or actually makes little difference to the overall... other than have the #1 arrive on the podium at the end like you say...

    Jx

btw. Can anyone confirm - is it only the bikes in reverse order, or the cars too? - if so, that would be *carnage!!!

(*ooooh, see what I did there?!)

    I hate surprises :huh

Anyway, this possibility was foreseen in the regulations:

And will make for the climax arrival, winner is last man coming in, they need for TV and crowd satisfaction. Just hope the 10 minute dust gap will be enough to keep the top wolfs apart from the slower heroes.

Again in this pic, Barreda's exhaust looks ok... So indeed he either stopped and fixed it or we are looking at different dates?

This is indeed a good story, Malle Moto Private KTM Twilhaar towing Multi Million Factory HRC Barreda. And not a good PR situation for Honda.

not too beat a dead horse.....

Shouldn't have one of the hrc guys waited for bam bam after the ass yesterday to tow him in? I'm wondering what Bam Bam thought after he pushed his bike across the line, looked around and thought WTF.

KTM must be loving those photos :D

Was thinking last night about Sven, Nani and Peters little dilemma... and what decision they will come to?

If Peterhansel takes the win... he is in the record books... but cardinal sin against the team order. And the team boss is in a position where he was dictated to (not something they like).

If Nani win's or places 2nd there is still an asterix by his name in any case.

    So what to do...?

Orchestrated DEAD HEAT... TWO winners... a tie!!?? Unprecendented. :evil

Peterhansel is off first... with three minutes ahead of Nasser then 3 minutes gap back to Nani...

They roll along at moderate coast speed and by mid stage they ar in formation 1, 2, 3 nose to tail... Now Nasse has made 3 minutes on Peterhansel and Nani 6 minutes. They proceed to the end.

at the ASS timing marker Peter rolls over first, with Nasser right behind.

Nani parks on the line for 5 minutes an 34 seconds... then crosses the timing marker... :evil

    Would they do it...?

It would be the ultimate show of team strength and almost humiliate the opposition... !? orchestrate a DAKAR dead heat?

    I LIKE it!!!? :evil:D

I'd say disadvantage, particularly if the stage is dusty and fire road/piste. The entire field is going to close up.

All Pain has to do is sit on the back of Despres' dust cloud and he'll be close enough to stay on the podium. Despres actually has to get (probably several) other riders between himself and Pain.

Of course if Pain wants to unseat Viladoms from 2nd, then the same applies to him.

Yes, any of the riders can use the Michelin truck facility, although a lot of riders prefer to change their own tyres of course (or have their own mechanic do it)...

For the Malle Moto pilots though, it does give you some valuable extra time to work on other service elements of your bike - you drop your wheels to the Michelin truck, and collect them again some time later.
